Former two-time WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Naomi is rumored to be making her return at this Sunday’s Royal Rumble.
The last time the wrestling world has seen Naomi was last summer in a WWE Main Event match, in late July, against Sarah Logan. Shortly after her convincing victory, there was an avalanche of bad news for the superstar. First her husband, Jimmy Uso, was arrested for a DUI. Later she would go on to reveal, in an Instagram post, that she was taking some time off to deal with a death of a loved one and an undisclosed health issue.
Naomi was advertised to wrestle in Puerto Rico at the end of last October, according to Wrestlinginc, but she still has not appeared in a televised match. It’s unclear if it was the loss of her loved one, or her health issues that have kept her out of the ring since last summer. But, the WWE certainly feels her absence.
It’s Not If, But When Naomi Returns…
Recently, a report from PWInsider may have the good news that wrestling fans have been waiting for. Reportedly, Naomi is ready to return to the ring and is going to be in Houston, Texas for the Royal Rumble. Smackdown Live will be in Dallas on Friday, so it would make sense for Naomi to come back and make a return on Friday, in an effort to hype up the Royal Rumble.
However, it might make even more sense to wait an extra two days and have her come out during the Women’s Royal Rumble match. It would be dumb to waste the huge pop from the crowd on Smackdown Live, when another one of the big four WWE events is right around the corner.
It’s a near certainty that if Naomi returns that it will be on Smackdown Live. Mostly because The Usos will be there and WWE usually keeps couples on the same show. When people think Naomi…they think Smackdown Live. She is a two-time WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion after all.
At this point, these are all rumors, but one thing I know for sure is that when Naomi returns…she will bring the GLOW.
