Sony and Disney studio heads shed light on the negotiations over the shared agreement of the Spider-Man character.

Let the good times roll… that’s what the heads of Sony and Disney are both hoping continue well into 2020. Last year Sony and Disney were not in sync. The two companies negotiations nearly resulted in Spider-Man being vanquished from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Some time after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was a thought to be a given that the original deal between the companies would be renewed. Well for about a month things took an unexpected turn, with Sony publicly reclaiming their property and were changing course to build up their own Spider-Verse without involving Marvel Studios. However, eventually a deal was made where Spidey’s world would continue within, and outside, of the MCU.

The Talk Behind the Spider-Man Talks

In a roundtable held by The Hollywood Reporter two executives from Sony and Disney, Tom Rothman and Alan Horn, discuss the negotiations made last year. They also talked about what the future was going to hold for both companies and what it means for the web-spinner. Here is what Horn, the Co-Chairman of Disney, had to say about the process:

“The fanbase, which is important to all of us, seemed to really respond to what Tom [Holland] and [the ‘Spider-Man’ crew] had done before…And they like it. They like the fact that the MCU and Kevin Feige were involved. And we heard feedback out there that suggested joining forces once again was probably a really good idea”

The current deal for Spider-Man includes one more solo sequel and a future team-up MCU movie involving the character. The question now is what happens next once this deal is finished. Rothman tells us he is hoping that future is bright. but also warns fans of the effects that online chatter has on negotiations, both good and bad.

Hopefully last year’s averted crisis showed fans that things have a way of working out at the right time. Now if we could only get some more details on the next installment in the series, things would be even better.

What do you think the future holds for Spider-Man? Are you glad to see his continued MCU adventures? Let’s talk about it in the comment section and on our social media!
