We got the official trailer for Devotion, a war epic starring Kang the Conqueror himself, Jonathan Majors.

Marvel Studios recently blew the roof off San Diego Comic Con’s legendary Hall H, as Kevin Feige revealed the entire slate for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as two Avengers films and lots more. That included the first footage of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in which fans freaked out over our first look at Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. But before he is going to fight the Avengers and conquer the Multiverse in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Majors stars in an upcoming war epic, Devotion.

JONATHAN MAJORS TAKES OFF IN DEVOTION

Devotion was just recently confirmed to premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and now the marketing campaign is in full swing with the first poster and the official trailer released. Previously set for an October 28 release, the film has recently been delayed by a few weeks for a Thanksgiving release on November 23, 2022.

The trailer showcases some solid looking high-flying war action and makes sure to let us know it is based on a true story. We also get a good look at some fun chemistry between Jonathan Majors and Glenn Powell.

Devotion was directed by J.D. Dillard. He is best known for the HBO series The Outsider and Amazon Prime’s Utopia. His two newest films Sweetheart and Sleight premiered to mediocre reception. The film is based on the book with the same name by Adam Makos and was written by Jake Crane and Jonathan Stewart.

The film follows Jesse Brown (Majors) and Tom Hudner (Powell) a pair of U.S. navy fighter pilots who risk their life during the Korean war and become some of the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen.

Devotion Jonathan Majors

Jonathan Majors is best known for his appearance in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Loki as He Who Remains, a variant of the super-villain Kang the Conqueror. He will reprise the role of Kang in at least two upcoming projects including the third Ant-Man film and the fifth Avengers adventure. It is fair to assume that he will pop up in more MCU projects in the next few years. Besides that, he was nominated for an Emmy for his role in Lovecraft Country and starred in the acclaimed Netflix films Da 5 Bloods and The Harder They Fall. He also earned rave reviews and awards nominations for his role in the A24 film The Last Black Man in San Francisco.

Glenn Powell is best known for his role in the box-office juggernaut Top Gun: Maverick, so the actor is experienced in flying fighter jets. He also starred in the Oscar nominated film Hidden Figures, the rom-com Set It Up and has a small part in The Dark Knight Rises.

Devotion Jonathan Majors

The story is definitely intriguing, however the film will have to face the obvious Top Gun: Maverick comparisons with the casting of Glenn Powell and especially when it comes to the action, which at least in the trailer doesn’t look as spectacular as it is in the legacy sequel.

What excites me the most about this film is the fact that Jonathan Majors plays the lead. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors as I’m always excited when a new project of his gets announced. I haven’t seen any of the director’s work, but the fact that it is premiering at TIFF and has been purposefully postponed to a more competitive weekend could mean that it’s a winner.
