Aniplex Announces Darwin’s Game
Aniplex of America is excited to announce that suspense thriller, Darwin’s Game, has been added to the winter anime 2020 lineup and will premiere on FunimationNow on January 3rd with a special hour-long episode. Based on FLIPFLOPs serialized manga series in “Bessatsu Shonen Champion” by AKITASHOTEN, this heart pounding shonen story follows Kaname Sudo, an ordinary high school student who has been entwined in a high-stakes, life-or-death battle after receiving an invitation to download a mobile app called “Darwin’s Game.”
Original creator and one half of FLIPFLOPs, Hide Fukuyama, is contributing to the series’ composition and screenplay, while animation production will be by Nexus (Granbelm, Chivalry of a Failed Knight). Yoshinobu Tokumoto (Comic Girls) has signed on as the director for the series, accompanied by Kenichiro Suehiro (Cells at Work!, Golden Kamuy) handling the music. FunimationNow subscribers will have a head start to watch the series first, before a subsequent weekly release on Crunchyroll and HIDIVE beginning February 2nd.
The series stars Yusuke Kobayashi (Fate/Apocrypha, Dr. Stone) as main character Kaname alongside Reina Ueda (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as Shuka Karino, who is known as “The Undefeated Queen” and top-ranking player within the game. Rounding out the cast is Nichika Omori (Dropkick on My Devil!, Invaders of the Rokujyoma!?) as Rein Kashiwagi, Taku Yashiro (Aho-Girl, Idolm@ster SideM) as Ryuji Maesaka, and Yumiri Hanamori (Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Laid-Back Camp) as Sui and Sota.
The series recently announced that the opening theme song “CHAIN” will be performed by ASCA and ending theme song “Alive” by Mashiro Ayano. Another anime from Aniplex called 22/7 will be arriving soon on Funimation, as well.
