Karen Gillan recently revealed new information about the direction of Nebula in Guardian of the Galaxy Vol 3.

The MCU’s future over the next two years is absolutely jam-packed, with sixteen different projects in development for release in movie theaters and on Disney+. On top of that, there are a few projects in their earliest stages of plannings with no set release date as of yet, one of those being the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.

After James Gunn was finally brought back by Marvel to complete his trilogy, questions arose once again on what exactly was in store for everyone’s favorite ragtag band of intergalactic misfits. The events of Avengers: Endgame, while bringing the team even closer together as a family, brought even more challenges for the bunch after leaving Earth for their newest unknown adventures.

One of the most important members of the team has turned out to be Nebula, who will be facing an entirely new reality after the Avengers and Guardians finally defeated her adopted father, the Mad Titan Thanos, for good. In a recent virtual panel at GalaxyCon Live, Nebula actress Karen Gillan shed some light on what exactly her character is in for now that she is finally free from the MCU’s biggest villain to date.

“I’m sort of thinking about future Nebula in the sense like, ‘What is she going to be like now that that person’s abuse has gone out of her life? How is she going to build herself back up again?’ Because it’s an odd feeling, I think, for someone who’s been abused by a parent, because they still love them and they’re sad that they’re gone, but also they hate them and they’re glad that they’re gone...I’m interested to maybe try and take her to a place now where she’s starting to rebuild her life.

Nebula has been one of the most emotionally challenged characters in the MCU to date. Fans have come to learn about the abuse that she suffered from Thanos, who made her battle her sister Gamora constantly and implemented machinery in her body whenever she lost. With Thanos and his army now turned to dust, she is finally free to be her own person and rebuild herself after her entire team returned to life.

No plot details are known yet for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3, but there is no shortage of material to work with after where things were left at the end of Avengers: Endgame. 2014 Gamora is somewhere in the universe completely on her own, Rocket still has an entire backstory to explore, and there is of course a whole new Nebula to dive into as well.
