Apple TV+ has just announced the return of its hit murder mystery comedy series, The Afterparty, for a second season, set to premiere on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Fans of the genre-bending show can look forward to a ten-episode season that explores different character accounts of a fateful evening, told through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals.

Created by Academy Award winner Chris Miller, each episode of The Afterparty takes viewers on a wild ride as it explores a new character’s account of the night’s events. Stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, and Zoë Chao return for season two, along with an expanded cast of characters played by Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Poppy Liu, Anna Konkle, Jack Whitehall, Vivian Wu, John Cho, and Ken Jeong.

The Afterparty Season 2 Save the Date

Chris Miller personally invited the world to the release date of The Afterpar2y Season 2. The second season follows the murder of a groom at a wedding, with every guest becoming a suspect. Detective Danner, played by Haddish, returns to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zoë (Chao) solve the mystery. As they question each guest, they’ll hear retellings of the weekend’s events, each with their own unique perspective and visual style.

What sets The Afterparty apart from other murder mystery shows is its genre-bending approach. Each episode is based on a different popular film genre, which provides a unique twist on the traditional whodunnit storyline. From horror to romantic comedies, viewers never know what they’re going to get with each episode. In the first season, we were treated to some gloriously bougie and pretentious film noir, a cartoon, and even a musical.

The show’s first season was a huge success, earning critical acclaim and praise from audiences worldwide. With its second season, The Afterparty promises to be even better. Miller and Lord’s expansive five-year overall television deal with TriStar TV and Sony Pictures Television ensures that the series will continue to bring fresh and innovative content to Apple TV+. With Detective Danner’s story being shared in the first season, it is a total mystery if there will once again be an episode focused on her. Perhaps if there is, it will be about her meteoric rise after solving the case in Season 1.

Regardless, tremendous credit to Miller and Anthony King for finding a way to organically reunite Aniq, Zoë, and Detective Danner. It will be thrilling to see Aniq and Zoë working together to sneak around gathering evidence to try and solve the case. After the way things ended in Season 1, they will likely work with Detective Danner with her support rather than behind her back, which adds a very different twist from the previous Season. The series could also focus more on different characters trying to solve the case and make the previous characters the murderers…

Viewers can mark their calendars for July 12, 2023, and prepare to be taken on a wild ride through a series of genre-bending retellings, from a literal who’s who of actors, on one fateful evening.
