AEW’s Thunder Rosa recently shared her thoughts on WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus turning heel on this week’s edition of WWE Monday Night Raw. Rosa was on top of the mountain of the AEW women’s division being the AEW Women’s World champion.  However, in August of last year, she announced she could not wrestle because of a serious nagging back injury.  She is still out of action and shows no sign of returning soon.

However, Rosa hasn’t abandoned the current events of the wrestling world.  Recently she co-hosted Busted Open Radio and gave her pick for wrestler of the week, noting Trish Stratus after her heel turn on Raw. She stated the following:

“I chose this week, from all the cool stuff that happened in professional wrestling, to pick Trish Stratus as my wrestler of the week. Now [Trish Stratus] is going to help [Becky Lynch] become a super-duper babyface. If we can see a little bit of what Trish Stratus was when she was a heel, and make someone like ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch even more over, it’s money. It’s all money.”

Rosa making Stratus her wrestler of the week is a very interesting choice.  Stratus was a big-name women’s wrestler in the 2000s but has not stayed heavily involved in wrestling aside from appearing in WWE here and there.  Recently she has been more involved and even had a six-woman tag match at WrestleMania 39 alongside the now former Women’s Tag Team Champions Becky Lynch and Lita.

This week on Raw, Stratus was able to become even more involved.  Lita was unable to compete and defend her tag championship with Lynch against the number one contenders, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.  Stratus took Lita’s spot in order to make sure the match happened.  I don’t think that should have been for the championships because Stratus isn’t the tag champion, but oh well.

TRISH DEMANDS STRATUSFACTION

Stratus tried to hit Morgan with a Chick Kick, but Morgan ducked and rolled Stratus up in a School Boy pin and won the match to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion along with Rodriguez.  Lynch was cool about it and took time to reassure Stratus that it was ok despite losing the championships. Stratus then jumped Lynch and turned heel in the process.

Stratus turning heel is a very big deal because she has been a babyface for most of her WWE career.  At one point, she became the John Cena of the women’s division in that she was and is looked up to by many of her peers as a gold standard to shoot for.  However, with her attack on Lynch, she isn’t much of a role model anymore.

She did play a heel multiple times in her WWE career. She started out as a heel and the manager of the faction T ‘n’ A. She also played the heel multiple times against Lita. Rosa talked about the roller coaster which is the women’s tag division in WWE.  She hopes this heel turn for Stratus can help elevate and make the division interesting. She continued during Busted Open Radio:

“I’m hoping that they really, really start doing something with these tag team titles, and they really develop something for these women, because they have really good tag teams. I just don’t feel like they take the time to develop this division.”

LET’S PUT THESE TWO WOMEN TOGETHER AND MAKE THEM A TAG TEAM

The women’s tag division is just a hodgepodge of two women.  Two women are just placed together and made into a tag team.  Both the former champions, Lynch and Lita just former a team to take on Damage CTRL, and current champions, Morgan and Rodriguez, were just placed together.  The only real women’s tag team I think is just Damage CTRL.  WWE’s tag team division in general is not great, but the women’s side is so much more disorganized.

Stratus’ heel turn seems to suggest the two will have a match at Backlash.  No matches have been officially announced yet, but Lynch vs. Stratus and Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes seem pretty certain so far.

What did you think of Trish Stratus’ heel turn?  Are you happy to see her be a heel again?  Do you think she can be a good heel or should she have stayed a babyface?  Are you excited to see Lynch and Stratus face off?  Do you think the heel turn will help to draw interest to the women’s tag division?  What do you think of Morgan and Rodriguez being the new tag champions?  Let us know who you would like to see Stratus wrestle next since it looks like she is back now.
