The new teaser for the new HBO series The Regime has been revealed. Kate Winslet stars as the head of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel. The story told through six episodes, covers a full year in the history of the fictional country. It was written by Will Tracy and directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs.
The upcoming series will debut on HBO on March 3. Check out the official trailer here:
NEW TEASER TRAILER FOR HBO’S THE REGIME CONFIRMS MARCH 2024 RELEASE DATE
It’s Winslet’s second collaboration with the network after their 2021 hit Mare of Easttown. The network is also planning to milk more partnerships with the people behind that show, as they are currently in pre-production of a new series from writer Brad Ingelsby that’s signed Mark Ruffalo Emilia Jones (CODA), and Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), among others, to star in it so far.

The cast includes Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant. The series was previously titled The Palace, though that was referred to as a working title. It started filming in early 2023 in Austria and the UK.
Winslet was once supposed to be in this year’s awards race with Lee, a biopic of war photographer Elizabeth “Lee” Miller, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film, however, does not have a distribution plan in the US yet. It’s unknown if someone will pick it up and wait for next year’s fall season, or just put it out in the spring hoping to make some business, perhaps capitalizing off of The Regime.
James Cameron also confirmed recently that Kate Winslet will return as Ronal, her character from Avatar: The Way of Water, in the third Avatar film. We know the threequel is going to introduce a volcanic race, the most antagonistic yet of the Na’vi, but we don’t know how the characters from the second film will come into play. It’s currently in post-production and set for a December 2025 release.
Looking Ahead at HBO’s 2024
The Regime, which will start airing on March 3, will be the third series coming from HBO next year. It will follow True Detective: Night Country out on January 14, and the final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which starts airing on February 4.
But they are just getting started. They recently confirmed that House of the Dragon season 2 is coming in the summer, and they have a few more shows in the pipeline as well: The Sympathizer, from Park Chan-wook and starring Robert Downey Jr., the third season of Industry, a new season of Somebody Somewhere, season 4 of My Brilliant Friend, The Jinx: Part Two, the new Sam Mendes, superhero parody The Franchise.
If we also bring Max originals into the fold, they have a new season of The Sex Lives of College Girls, the second season of Tokyo Vice, a new Pretty Little Liars spin-off titled Summer School, a new season of Hacks, and the highly anticipated The Batman spin-off The Penguin, with Colin Farrell reprising his role.
Looking at that list, though, you might notice a lot of pre-branded series — from new seasons of already-running shows to new spin-offs of known titles. And though HBO rarely misses (we can’t really say the same thing about the Max brand so far), it’s always nice when they expand their horizons. That is why The Regime feels extra special; the same applies to The Sympathizer and The Franchise.

Of course, the big shots return in 2025, when new seasons of The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Euphoria are supposed to be released. The first two are starting production in February, in Canada and Thailand, respectively, while a start date for the Zendaya-led show has not been announced yet. The Casey Bloys-run streaming service is also currently filming an It prequel series titled Welcome to Derry, also coming in 2025.
