The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, is finally getting a new film made about him. Titled Michael, it’s set for release in Spring 2025 as the filming date gets closer.
Michael Jackson has cemented himself in history as being one of the best musical artists ever. Even though Bad Bunny was crowned King of Pop in 2023 by Forbes Magazine, not everyone agrees with that title. The world still considers MJ as the rightful King of Pop.

He also deserves to have his biopic. Many famous people in history such as Gandhi, Elvis Presley, Mark Zuckerburg, and many others have had movies made about their lives. It’s about time MJ also has his own.
Thanks to director Antoine Fuqua for seeing this vision and telling his story. Making his debut on the big screen playing the late King of Pop, is his nephew Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson. Jaafar is a handsome young man, and I think they made the right choice casting him as Michael Jackson, especially with the resemblance he has to his late uncle.
It’s expected to arrive in Spring 2025 and production is on Jan. 22 2024 once there aren’t any hiccups. Lionsgate would be releasing the movie in Canada and America while Universal would be handling the the distribution in other countries.
Would The Michael Jackson Biopic be honest?
As many people know, Michael Jackson’s life was filled with a lot of controversy. It’s yet to be known if it would be embraced by audiences as well as they’ve embraced other biopics about famous performers. He started in the Jackson 5 as a kid, then made his way to a solo career in 1971. However, his life had many ups and downs, which producers would say “make for great TV”.

The movie has a lot of ties to the Jackson Family. The film is being co-produced by executors of Jackson’s estate. One can hope Fuqua still gets the creative freedom to tell this story. He intends to show all sides of Michael Jackson’s story as mentioned on Good Morning America back in Aug 2023:
“He was a great artist. He was human so we’re gonna show the good, bad, and the ugly. We’re just going to tell Michael based on the facts that I have. Me and Graham King, the producer who did Bohemian Rhapsody, we’re just going to tell the facts that we know it. It’s for the audience to make a decision on how they feel about Michael, but we’re going to tell the facts as we know it.”
Fuqua has his job cut out for him as it’s a big project he took on. He’s a great director so I have high hopes for this movie. He has a vision and he intends on bringing it to life.
Jackson was one of the most influential cultural figures of the twentieth century, inspiring many artists even in this current era. His story deserves to be told accurately, even if some people may not like what’s being shown. Expect to see the allegations of child sexual abuse which the singer was accused of, as well as many other issues surrounding his life leading up to his death. His life was not a pristine one, so the movie isn’t only going to focus on the good parts of his life. As Fuqua mentioned, he wants to tell an honest, and raw story.
