In honor of celebrating love, the cast of Bridgerton came together with Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes, new showrunner Jess Brownell, and author of the original series, Julia Quinn for a Global Fan & Press Event. Besides the small teaser we have already seen released, this was the first real look at what fans can expect from the anticipated new season.
Mark the arrival, because on May 16th the first part of Bridgerton Season Three will arrive on Netflix. This season is set up to focus on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) as they shift from friends to lovers. Every season we are introduced to a new couple featuring one of the many Bridgerton siblings. However, this will be the first time we will be watching a love story unfold where the viewers already feel a strong connection to the couple.

After the cliffhanger that season two left fans on, as well as the smashing success of the Bridgerton spin-off, Queen Charlotte, fans are extremely excited to see how it all comes together in the next installment. Now while the cast and crew were very good at not letting any spoilers slip during the Global Fan & Press Event, here are some of the top takeaways.
Shonda Rhimes hinted that fans can expect to see a lot of characters in new situations. This is a great way to sum up this upcoming season of Bridgerton. Usually, it feels as if the main story focuses on the love interest, with a few side characters and plots being sprinkled in. However, season three looks to be shaking that up a little.
Take into consideration that while many are excited to see Penelope finally get the guy, many fans are tuning in to see what happens with Penelope and Eloise. Plus, they have been left wondering what happens now with Penelope’s secret. The two best friends had just had a horrible falling out and it seems as if it’s going to take a bit of time before it’s resolved.
Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton, talked about how this is her character’s first big blow. A level of betrayal that is so large, that it’s hard to come back from. Laughing a little, Jessie finished her point by stating how easy it is to forget that these are young characters. While she was touching on this, Shonda chimed in by stating, “Second love story of the season.”
But it isn’t just those relationships. During the Global Fan & Press Event, we got more information about other side plots. Adjoa Andoh, Lady Agatha Danbury, touched on what was in store for her character. Not only can we expect to see a few things from the series Queen Charlotte poke up, but it seems as if something is on its way to rattle her carefree persona.
“Are they going to knock me off my game? Are they going to create cracks in my frasaude? Mess up my relationships? See her on the back foot, not fully in control of her emotions. A wobble, a flare…” Andoh stated, leaving us even more excited to see who or what is this thing that could shake her so.
Another great focus point this season will be on the newish characters Will and Alice Mondrich, who we met in Bridgerton Season Two. This will mostly follow them as they navigate their new title and rise to the ranks within the ton. Martins Imhangbe, who plays Will, touched on the inner conflict this will bring forward within.
Some Tantalizing First Looks
Along with giving us more information on the plot points we can expect in Bridgerton Season Three, we also got some first peaks. Starting almost right away, Julia Quinn confirmed that a beloved moment in the novel was indeed in the series. This scene includes Penelope coming to Coln’s aid by helping wrap his hand after being cut. Quinn touched on what makes this moment such a fan-favorite, including that it really is the first moment of intimacy between the two.
After seeing a sneak at the season premiere, it’s clear that these two are going to have many ups and downs. The thing about friends to lovers, is there are so many mixed emotions built upon a shared history that can muddy the waters. A great example of this is when Nicola Coughlan talked about how Penelope couldn’t see the real Colin because she had put him on a pedestal. It isn’t until he is knocked down, that she can see him as a regular human being.
However, by the time the two start to figure it out, it seems there is a third party at play. This is where Lord Debling (Sam Phillips) comes in. He is set up to be Colin’s biggest threat and Penelope’s top suitor. At the event hosted by Netflix and Shondaland, we got our first looks at what he looks like. As well as a collection of other photos from Bridgerton Season Three.
To wrap up the Global Fan & Press event, they announced something no one expected. Two super fans are going to be given their dream, a Bridgerton-themed wedding. This is all in effort to further the close bond that the show Bridgerton has with the passionate and dedicated fanbase. With the excitement from the Bridgerton cast and creators, it’s clear that this season is shaping up to be huge. Not only for the fans but for the series moving forward. We will finally get to see plot lines we have enjoyed through the first two seasons, and the Queen Charlotte spin-off, come together in an explosive season that will keep the press hot and the Ton gossiping.

We also will finally get answers regarding one of the most beloved characters, Penelope Featherington. As well as hopefully see her relationship with Eloise start to mend, while her relationship with Colin is forever changed. It also appears from what the cast said that this season is all about shaking it up and pushing the characters we know, outside their comfort zones.
