Prime Video’s flagship series The Boys is coming back for its fourth season this June, the streamer announced today.
Two years after they dropped the third season, back in summer 2022, Homelander is back to laser everyone’s heads — and he’s more unhinged than ever before. Here is the official synopsis for season 4:
“In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”
The new season will be eight episodes in total, and the first three will be available on launch date, with subsequent entries hitting weekly through July 18. A teaser trailer was revealed late last year:
Not even Rings of Power and its hundreds of millions in spending can rival the popularity of The Boys, which is one of Prime Video’s only recognizable titles for general audiences. After three seasons of the main show, the leadership at the streamer, which also airs popular shows like Fleabag or The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, decided to expand their horizons by giving their thumbs up to spin-offs like Gen V, which aired last September and has been renewed for another season since, and another project tentatively titled The Boys: Mexico.
The Boys Is Prime Video’s Flagship Franchise
For a platform that has struggled to be consistent in terms of output and which has had no qualms extending blank checks to creatives like Patrick McKay and JD Payne to do whatever they want with The Lord of the Rings (a series I adamantly loved) or the Russo Bros., to put together an action-spy international franchise that nobody cared about, Prime Video needs a win. They had some strong numbers last year with Reacher season 2 or even Daisy Jones & The Six, but the fact that the former became their most-streamed title of the year within five days of release says a lot.
Amazon MGM Studios is also in the awards race with the non-Oscar-nominated Saltburn and Air, as well as Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction, which did land a few noms.
