It’s been a big week for True Detective fans. The final episode of the fourth season, subtitled Night Country, aired on HBO on Sunday night. Just a few days later, the network announced that a fifth season is in development with Issa López back as showrunner. Parallel to that, they have also confirmed the physical release of the six-episode fourth season, which stars Jodie Foster.
The series, which is currently available for digital purchase on Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, and more, is coming on Blu-Ray and DVD to all major retailers on July 9, the network announced this week. The price point sits at $24.98 for the DVD set and $29.98 for the Blu-ray.

The new release packages a bunch of bonus features, including:
- A Q&A with the cast titled “Meet the True Detectives”
- “New Chapter”: a discussion by showrunner/writer/director Issa López and her cast on Night Country’s unique role in the series.
- A short documentary titled “Exploring Indigenous Themes” delves into Alaska Native culture and how it has informed this season.
- “Max Inkblots”: a bunch of show-themed inkblot interpretations to get to know the cast.
- A featurette to set up Alaska as the focal point of True Detective: Night Country
- “Atmospheric Teases”: Social environmental shots to tease key moments from the series.
True Detective: Night Country has been very well received internally by the network, the critics, and also the fans. It’s become the most-watched season of the show, and also the highest rated on Rotten Tomatoes, barely surpassing season 1’s 91%.
With the announcement of Season 5 being in the works, it was also revealed that Issa López has inked an overall deal to develop new projects for HBO and Max.
