Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #118 tears into a new installment for Darkest Hour, featuring the desperate struggles of Rita and Tommy. The latest issue of the Boom! Studios series continues the 30th-anniversary event and pushes the darkest further. The upcoming issue has teased the next pages of the story, which features the continued defense of the Rangers against the forces of evil. Fans also get to see another meshing of characters as the Phantom Ranger clashes with the Ranger Slayer.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is now halfway through the 12-month Darkest Hour comic event. Boom! Studios revealed the new event arc as part of the 30th-anniversary celebration of the franchise, which features a ‘Shattered Grid’ themed collision of timelines and Ranger teams.

As the Morphin Grid is corrupted by Dark Spector, Rangers find themselves facing friends and joining foes to stop his darkest from spreading. Melissa Flore, Ryan Parrott, and the team have continued a flux of releases, including Ranger Slayer in her own starring comic, Power Rangers Unlimited: The Morphin Master.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #118 Pushes into Survival Mode

BOOM! Studios, under license by leading toy and game company Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), revealed a first look at Issue #118, the continuation of the Darkest Hour event, taking place after the bold and greatly anticipated Reunited, Recharged era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The superstar creative lineup includes writer Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, The Dead Lucky), artist Simona Di Gianfelice (All New Firefly) with Marco Renna (Mighty Morphin), colorist Raúl Angulo (Mech Cadet Yu) with assistance by Jose Enrique Fernández, and letterer Ed Dukeshire (The Woods, Irredeemable) in the continuation of this monumental 12-month event, available in March.

Reality hits Mistress Vile hard and she does the unthinkable, which puts her in dire straits, to the point where her survival is on the line! As Dark Specter’s relentless assault continues, Mistress Vile finds refuge in a familiar place, but finds unexpected company. But most importantly, where will fate lead a trapped Tommy, desperate to reunite with the other Rangers?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #118 features main cover art by star artist Taurin Clarke (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and variant covers by acclaimed illustrators Björn Barends (Spawn), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and the second of three covers by Michael Walsh (The Silver Coin)!

Celebrating 30 continuous years on the air, Power Rangers has become one of the longest-running kids’ live-action series in television history, with more than 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the series celebrates its 30th year with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, an anniversary special streaming exclusively on Netflix. The 30th overall season of Power Rangers, “Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury,” is currently available exclusively on Netflix.

It’s crazy to think that we are past the halfway mark for the Darkest Hour event, especially as a shadow still looms over the path to the end. The team at Boom! Studios have been blessing fans with nail-biting installments for the main storyline, but have also granted fans with even more content in other releases. This includes Ranger Academy and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return, which have both expanded the Grid wider than ever before. The comics have also become the main piece of content for Power Rangers fans, so everyone will be excited to see what will happen next in the coming issues.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
