The new animated series is a revival of the classic 1990s animated series that helped give way to a wave of hit animated Marvel shows and eventually live-action movies. That eventually sparked the birth of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. ’97 essentially continues where The Animated Series left off with its previous series finale, “Graduation Day.”

Thus far, the reaction to the show has been overwhelmingly positive. The show currently has a 100% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, which is impressive. The show also features many of the original voice actors from the 1990s series reprising their iconic roles, including Cal Dodd as Wolverine, George Buza as Hank McCoy/The Beast, Lenore Zann as Rogue, and Alison Sealy-Smith as Ororo Munroe/Storm.

Between the great new subline of Marvel Legends action figures from Hasbro and this new line of apparel from BoxLunch, it’s great to see Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants getting so much cool new swag in celebration of the show’s release. Marvel and Disney have certainly put their best foot forward to promote the show with various merchandise on the shelves, and anticipation really built to a fever pitch before the show’s premiere.

It feels like X-Mania is sweeping the nation once again just like during the animated show’s heyday in the 1990s. You can also check out the first two episodes of X-Men ’97, streaming now on Disney+. New episodes of the first 10-episode season will be streaming weekly until May 15.
