In somewhat of an expected role, Bill Skarsgård plays an absolutely shredded deaf-mute in Boy Kills World. What do you get when you allow Moritz Mohr and Sam Raimi to team up? One hell of a good time. Bill Skarsgård plays Boy, a deaf-mute martial arts-trained kid turned-man who spends the majority of his life hunting down his mother’s killer.

He is in insane shape as he delivers jaw-dropping fight sequences reminiscent of a perfect mesh of John Wick and Scott Pilgrim. With several twists, Boy Kills World keeps you entertained to the very end.
While Boy doesn’t speak, the viewer is treated to an inner monologue narrated via a voice from a video game he used to play as a kid. Perhaps the sheer perfect twist of this film is that Bill Skarsgård had no lines. With that said, it’s not too crazy to assume he spent the time he would have used to learn his lines in the gym instead.
The world famously knows him for his creepy portrayal of Pennywise in the IT films. Don’t be fooled, as Bill Skarsgård is remarkably jacked as he punches, kicks, and shoots his way through his mission of seeking revenge. While he is unable to speak, his facial reactions give us quite a few laughs along the way.
We get to grow up with Boy from when he was, well, a young boy, as Shaman, played by Yayan Ruhian, trains him through adulthood. He endures quite a bit of torturous beatings as his trainer is highly skilled. It’s quite a different light that we’re seeing Bill Skarsgård in, as he was a non-fighter in John Wick: Chapter 4. It’s like, well sheesh, he had that in him the whole time? Would have been intense to see him go up against Keanu Reeves at least once.
Nonetheless, Boy Kills World is wildly filled with action fit to satisfy the most elite adrenaline junkie. The over-the-top sequences fit with the fictional state of their reality. There is a yearly event they call “The Culling” where people who speak out against Hilda Van Der Koy (Famke Janssen) are publicly killed for all to see. The viewer can feel the rage burning within Boy, as he spends the entire length of the film waiting patiently for the right moment to take her out.
An Incoming Cult Classic
The cinematic shots are fast-paced and exaggerated, making Boy Kills World a joy to watch unfold on screen. Is it for everyone? No, no it is not. There will be overly critical viewers who think it’s not realistic, but then again, it isn’t meant to be. The bold and oversaturated coloring combined with the bloody fights makes it as pleasing as a live-action Mortal Kombat “finish him” sequence. It all works so well together that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it turn into a cult classic over time.
