The new series follows Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin. Colin Farrell reprises his role as the mobster from the hit theatrical film. The show will be an eight-episode DC Studios limited series continuing the epic crime saga from filmmaker Matt Reeves’ The Batman. You can check out the newly revealed teaser trailer below:
THE PENGUIN LOOKS TO BE AN INTENSE CRIME DRAMA SET IN THE UNDERWORLD OF GOTHAM CITY
The new series is developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc and will center on the character portrayed by Farrell in the film. The new teaser trailer shows the aftermath of the events of the 2022 movie, showing the flooded Gotham City caused by the machinations of The Riddler.
The new trailer also reveals veteran character actor Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni. Brown is no stranger to comic book projects having appeared in the Marvel Netflix series for Daredevil and The Punisher. He also famously voiced Lex Luthor in Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited. He also voiced the character of Parallax in DC’s live-action Green Lantern movie and Surtur in Thor: Ragnarok.
It appears that with the death of Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) in The Batman, there’s now a power vacuum in Gotham City, and it looks like other relatives and crime bosses are looking to seize control. The trailer also reveals Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, the legitimate daughter of Carmine Falcone. You can also check out the new teaser artwork for the series below:
The new series also stars Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O’Connell as Francis Cobb, James Madio as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen as Luca Falcone, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Carmen Ejogo as Eve Karlo, and Theo Rossi as Dr. Julian Rush. The show is being executive produced by The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc. LeFranc is also the lead writer and showrunner for the limited series.
Craig Zobel will direct three episodes. Zobel, Bill Carraro, and Daniel Pipski are also attached as executive producers. The series is based on characters created for DC Comics by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It’s produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal.

Besides The Penguin, the exploits of the Caped Crusader will continue in the next theatrical sequel for The Batman, currently titled The Batman II. Robert Pattinson is slated to reprise his role as Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, and Matt Reeves is also returning to write and direct the sequel. It’s currently due out for a Fall 2026 release.
DC’s The Penguin will debut later this September on Max. The show will be available exclusively on the streamer.
