However, her life takes a turn when her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) convinces her to return to the plains to test a groundbreaking new tracking system.

The plot thickens as Kate crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), a daring social media superstar who thrives on capturing dangerous storm-chasing adventures. As storm season peaks, unprecedented phenomena are unleashed, thrusting Kate, Tyler, Javi, and their teams into the path of multiple converging storm systems over central Oklahoma.

Smith (writer of the Best Picture nominee The Revenant), is based on a story by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion), and it draws from characters created by Michael Crichton and Anne Marie Crichton. Synopsis
