Navigating the labyrinthine halls of barricades, boundaries, and bodies of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) can be a daunting endeavor, rife with perilous lines, overcrowding of the sweaty and expiring, and the relentless hunt for exclusives. After more than a decade of mastering the chaos, I’ve seen and done it all—from scoring the coveted Funko exclusive to sitting front row at Hall H, all while staying hydrated, unsunburned, and still daisy-fresh amidst it all.

The Essential SDCC Survival Kit
These items are needed for all of us in Gas Lamp, whether attending SDCC or not. Most of the items are for you, but a couple is also so you’re not ruining someone else’s trip. If you’re bare-armed and sweaty, it’s one thing, but bare-armed sweaty, and stinky is rude, inconsiderate, and a health hazard.
Hydration is key, in life. It’s second to breathing. The convention hall is full of hydration stations, the panels have water jugs, and when you go out to eat there are generally water stations. Do not wear yourself down by lugging a camel bag, get one of these and refill as needed.
It’s sunny California, and it’s Southern California. Plus you’re nerds who, not to be stereotypical, but are not known to be acquainted with the sun. Especially if you lack melanin, this is to save you from immediate pain and irritation as well as long term health problems.
You will be on your feet A LOT at SDCC. Whether standing in line, walking to the next location, standing in line, waiting to cross the train tracks, or standing in line, you’ll probably be on your feet. Save yourself unnecessary pain, soreness, and foot problems with a good pair of insoles.

I don’t care what you think, or what your stupid crystals are supposed to do. Just swipe or spray some in your crevices. As you see it says TOTAL BODY DEODORANT. Basically, if it’s a hinge, crevice, or place that builds up a lot of moisture, put some anti-smelliness there. No one will judge you for doing it, everyone will hate you for not doing it.
In a similar vein, chances are you were not fortunate to get a hotel nearby because the hotel situation at SDCC is atrocious. You’ve run into a lot of people who have the same problem. You’ve been sweating, sitting on the floor, and unfortunately in contact with other people’s sweat, skin, breath, etc. So it’s nice to be able to make yourself a little cleaner especially say you have met someone new or something. Also, nice to have when you’re away from your bidet.

One, breath expires regardless of who you are. Gum will help refresh your breath, and it also helps to delay hunger. Personally, I like to pre-workout gums for extra energy. But all gum works to help keep your breath from going bad. If halitosis is your main concern though, definitely aim for the minty stuff.

There’s a lot of cool $#!+ to see at SDCC. You’re making memories, trying to find your friends, trying to remember which booth had the exclusive you want, or trying not to talk to the people in line around you. Plus, I’m assuming that’s all done on your phone. And regardless if you’re team incredible advanced device or blue bubble, it’ll likely kill your battery. So those are the 7 Essential items you need plus the one nice and convenient way to have it all on you without taking up the space of an entirely new person. It’s all there to keep you healthy, approachable, and refreshed. It also helps prevent unnecessary irritation to others. While that might not matter to many, the pure efficiency of this kit will provide more satisfaction to the self than trying to be an inconvenience to others does. But this is just the essentials.
