INSIDE OUT 2 Reaches Huge Box Office Milestone

Inside Out 2 just became the highest-grossing animated movie in cinematic history.

The hit Disney animated Pixar feature, Inside Out 2, continues to rack up box office accolades. As announced by Walt Disney Studios today, the sequel officially became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time. It’s currently made $1.462 billion at the global box office to date.

That is just the global take so far to count. The movie is still going strong in its box office run, and it stands to make a lot more before it officially leaves theaters. It’s also made over $600 million at the domestic box office and counting.

INSIDE OUT 2 CRUSHES BOX OFFICE RECORDS

Inside Out 2 recently surpassed Disney’s own Frozen 2 a $1.4 billion to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie rounds behind at $1.361 billion worldwide.

The sequel also now ranks at No. 13 on the all-time global box office rankings. It’s currently in its sixth week of release, and it’s remained in the top three of the box office rankings throughout its run so far. With $861 million from the overseas box office, it’s now poised to make its theatrical debut in Japan starting next work. Here are some of the other box-office milestones for the sequel:

  • Fastest animated film to $1 billion globally (19 days)
  • Highest-grossing movie of 2024 to date, and the only one to cross $1 billion
  • Biggest global animation opening of all time ($292 million) and second-biggest domestic animation opening ($154 million)
  • The highest-grossing film in industry history in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay

Disney now holds four of the Top 5 and 9 and of the Top 15 highest-grossing animated films in cinematic history.

The sequel follows the newly minted teenager Riley as Headquarters undergoes a demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment all show up.

The voice cast for the film features Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kinsington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Paul Walter Hauser, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

The sequel is directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen and executive produced by Pete Docter, Jonas Rivera, and Dan Scanlon. Mann directs from a script by Meg La Fauve and Dave Holston, with a story by Mann and LeFauve. Inside Out 2 is now playing in theaters.
