TWILIGHT Animated series MIDNIGHT SUN Coming Soon to Netflix

'TWILIGHT' goes animated! 'MIDNIGHT SUN' will be adapted as an animated series for Netflix.

Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer’s 2020 novel in her best-selling book series, Twilight, will be adapted as an animated series and it is currently in development. Netflix announced the project earlier today. The novel is the retelling of Twilight but from the perspective of Edward Cullen, Bella Swan’s beloved. The project was first reported back in April 2023 at Lionsgate Television. The chairman of Lionsgate, Michael Burns, confirmed in March 2024 that it was going to be an animated series.

THE TWILIGHT SAGA PHENOMENON CONTINUES ON NETFLIX WITH MIDNIGHT SUN

The Twilight series became a multi-billion dollar franchise that starred Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The first film was released on November 21, 2008, with both fans of the book series and film fans flocking to their local theaters. With the success of the first film, The Twilight Saga: New Moon set records for advance ticket sales. The film became the ninth-highest opening weekend in domestic history and it became the sixth-highest worldwide opening weekend.

Though the series was a success at the box office, reviews were mixed from critics. Some critics stated that the films weren’t “quite the adrenaline-charged game changer for love story haters that its marketing might lead to believe.” The film that received the most negative review was Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Rotten Tomatoes reported that 25% of critics gave the film a positive review. When it came to Breaking Dawn – Part 2, it received a much more favorable reception than the first part.

Pop culture has often referenced the films. This included a 2010 parody film, Vampire Sucks and a Dusk trilogy from My Babysitter’s a Vampire universe. Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaia used music from Twilight and New Moon soundtracks from her program. She later became the European champion while also becoming a favorite for the world title.

An official release date for the Midnight Sun animated series is yet to be announced but more information about the series will be announced as it gets closer to release.
