As anticipation builds for Disney’s Moana 2, set to hit theaters on November 27, the studio has partnered with the National Geographic Society’s Pristine Seas initiative and the Polynesian Voyaging Society to launch a powerful conservation campaign. This collaborative effort celebrates the explorer in all of us while championing ocean protection, paying homage to the film’s themes of adventure, culture, and the vital importance of our oceans.
Answering the Call to Protect Our Oceans
The Moana 2 campaign brings together Disney, Pristine Seas, and the Polynesian Voyaging Society to inspire action for marine conservation. A newly released featurette highlights how the ocean connects us, sustains life, and sparks joy across cultures and coastlines.

The video also underscores the critical need to protect these waters and showcases the collaborative work being done to ensure the ocean thrives for generations to come.
Supporting Pristine Seas’ Global Efforts
Since 2008, National Geographic Pristine Seas has explored and protected more than 6.8 million square kilometers of marine habitats, establishing 29 marine protected areas worldwide. These “national parks of the sea” preserve vital ecosystems, benefiting both wildlife and local communities. By teaming up with Pristine Seas, Disney is amplifying the initiative’s mission to work alongside Indigenous Peoples, governments, and partners to create sustainable marine protections.
“When marine life has the opportunity to thrive, the ocean gives back in multitudes,” the campaign emphasizes, reflecting the interconnectedness explored in Moana 2.
Honoring Wayfinding with the Polynesian Voyaging Society
In addition to showcasing the natural beauty of the ocean, Moana 2 celebrates Polynesian culture and the ancient art of wayfinding—navigating the seas using only the stars, sun, and swells. This tradition, once in danger of disappearing, is being revived by the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
The society’s legendary canoe, Hōkūle‘a, has sailed nearly 300,000 miles across the globe, reconnecting with Indigenous communities and inspiring environmental stewardship. The next leg of the Moanauiākea Voyage resumes next year, continuing its mission to circumnavigate the Pacific and build a global movement to care for the ocean.

“This partnership underscores the sacred connection between people and nature, reminding us of the responsibility we all share to protect the planet,” the society shared.
Disney’s Commitment to Conservation
This initiative is part of Disney’s larger commitment to sustainability through its Disney Planet Possible program. Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has directed over $125 million to global projects aimed at protecting wildlife and ecosystems, including marine habitats. In more than 40 countries and all five oceans, Disney has supported community-based programs fostering appreciation and protection for marine life.
When we work together to protect the ocean and its unique inhabitants, we safeguard the cultures, stories, and traditions that connect us all. Visit NatGeo.com/AnswertheCall to learn how you can make a difference.
