Super Sentai first began in 1975 with Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, marking the start of the renowned Tokusatsu superhero series. Thanks to the 16th Sentai adaptation in to Power Rangers, fans around the world have become more aware of the iconic franchise airing in Japan. Some of the favourites include anniversary seasons such as the 30th Sentai, Gogo Sentai Boukenger, and the 35th Sentai, Kaizou Sentai Gokaiger. Why is the 49th Sentai the 50th celebration of Super Sentai?
Goranger started in 1975, meaning that the 2025 series will mark the 50th anniversary of Super Sentai. Although GoZyuger is the 49th Sentai series, a recently revealed poster showcases all teams that lead up to the new series. This includes the 42nd Sentai, Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger, being split into two defined teams to complete the count as 50. The series is set to air after the 48th Sentai, Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, completes its run, which may still be exclusive to Japan.
It’s clear that the Sentai intends to go big to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Super Sentai. ‘No. 1 Sentai’ is a bold title that could only belong to a series that celebrates such a significant milestone for the franchise.
