ILM and Lucasfilm Reveal Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset at Star Wars Celebration 2025

Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset is your portal to a whole new galaxy—where Sebulba’s back, podracing’s real, and the action takes place right in your living room.

A galaxy far, far away is about to collide with your living room. At Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm pulled back the curtain on Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset, a cutting-edge experience currently in development for Meta Quest headsets. Fans attending the convention at Makuhari Messe were treated to the very first hands-on preview at the ILM and Meta Quest activation (Hall 4, Booth #20-5).

A New Way to Experience the Galaxy

Blending immersive storytelling with groundbreaking mixed reality technology, Star Wars: Beyond Victory isn’t just a game—it’s a reimagination of play itself. Executive Producer Alyssa Finley described the project as something far more expansive:

“We’re calling this a Playset because it isn’t just a game; it’s an entirely new way to experience the Star Wars galaxy and the worlds we create at ILM,” said Finley. “This new mixed reality experience blends the physical and digital worlds in a way that’s unlike anything we’ve done before.”

Set in the timeline surrounding Solo: A Star Wars Story, the playset introduces original characters and delivers gameplay that spans story-driven missions, high-speed podracing, and creative worldbuilding.

What’s in the Playset?

The mixed reality experience is divided into three distinct modes, offering a spectrum of interactivity and immersion:

  • Adventure Mode: Follow Volo, a scrappy, aspiring podracer whose life changes dramatically when he becomes a protégé of none other than Sebulba. Yes—that Sebulba. Expect narrative-driven gameplay that combines the magic of ILM storytelling with the freedom of MR.
  • Arcade Mode: Jump into the pilot’s seat with mixed reality podracing on a virtual holotable. It’s fast, furious, and puts you right in the heart of the podracing experience as you’ve never seen it before.
  • Playset Mode: This is where fans can turn their own homes into Star Wars playgrounds. Unlock and display virtual action figures and vehicles, then stage epic battles or custom scenes using real-world surfaces as your galactic backdrop.

Professional Nerd | Amateur Human | Creative/Content Director The best way to describe Kevin Fenix is the kid you never tell what the buttons do in video games so you have a chance to win. Being 6’ 4” and Asian, he never really fit in, so he got comfortable standing out. Not only is it easy to find him in crowds, he dabbles in the culinary arts, does a little stand up and improv, and can honestly say Spider-Man is the Jesus-like influence of his life. Kevin Fenix loves dogs, movies, television, comics, comedy, and to shoot people… with video.
