From great performances to surprising reveals, this is THE place to be for all things Disney, Pixar, and Marvel. In no particular order, we narrowed it down to the 10 most exciting projects that were announced this weekend at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event:
1. Moana 2
The release of the official trailer for Moana 2 kicked things off with a bang at D23. Set three years later, Moana and Maui team up again to face a new threat. Disney has big plans for the character, as we’re also getting a live-action film from the franchise set to release in 2026.
2. Lilo and Stitch (Live Action)
While many are still upset that this is even being developed, Lilo & Stitch is another Disney film that’s getting the live-action treatment. Regardless, one can’t disagree that Stitch looks great animation-wise and might even become a project that grows on people over time. A teaser trailer was shown with a release date being announced for the Summer of next year.
3. Snow White
We are finally close to seeing the live-action Snow White come to fruition, with the release slated for next year. A teaser trailer was shown with Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot in full-character mode. Some fans are still sad they went with the choice to use CGI dwarfs instead of people, but it’s too late to turn back now. The footage looks beautiful and appears to do the beloved story justice.
4. Incredibles 3
Incredibles 3 was announced as being in production at Pixar, causing a roar in the audience as it’s been a fan favorite for decades. The sequel broke records when it was released, causing memes to flood the internet of adults filling seats to see their childhood
5. Toy Story 5
The audience at D23 was treated to a teaser for Toy Story 5. Director Andrew Stanton stated that the premise sees Woody, Buzz, and the whole toy box fighting to stop their new kiddo from becoming attached to electronics. “This time around, it’s toy meets tech. It’s going to be fun, and we can’t wait for you all to see it in the summer of 2026,” says Stanton.
6. Frozen 3
Frozen is getting its third installment in the franchise sometime in 2027, with a short teaser shown to guests at D23. It gave a first look at Elsa and Anna riding a white horse and a brown stag. In addition, there are plans for a Frozen 4, with a Broadway musical adaptation hitting Disney+ sometime in 2025.
7. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Jude Law will make his debut in the Star Wars franchise as a force user named Jod Na Nawood. Surprising to many was a look at what suburbs look like in the Star Wars universe. Fans have already expressed their distaste for the “realistic” depiction of the neighborhoods, some claiming the franchise is just doing too much at this point.
8. Freakier Friday
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee-Curtis appeared on stage to introduce the official title for the sequel, Freakier Friday. We see the return of the mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman as Lohan’s character prepares to marry into a new family. Starring as the future hubby is none other than The Acolyte‘s Manny Jacinto. The original cast is back including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
9. Iron Heart
A full trailer for the long-awaited solo film featuring Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) was shown, with a release date set for next year. The trailer shows Riri working on a new suit, as well as a look at Anthony Ramos as the villain Parker Robbins/The Hood. Alden Ehrenreich, Lyric Ross, Matthew Elam, Anji White, Manny Montana, and Shea Couleé all star in the film as well. It was well received from the crowd so it seems a lot of potential lies with this one.
10. Win or Lose
In an announcement that doesn’t involve live-action or sequels, Pixar’s first-ever original TV series is on the way, titled Win or Lose. It introduces us to the Pickles, a softball team gearing up for a championship led by the head coach voiced by Will Forte as they prepare for the game of their lives. Fresh new ideas are much needed and Disney is bringing us just that!
