Peacock has officially given a straight-to-series order for The ‘Burbs, a new series adaptation of the 1989 cult classic film of the same name. Emmy® Award winner Keke Palmer (Nope, Password) will star in and executive produce the project, with Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale, Dead to Me) serving as writer and executive producer.
The series, produced by UCP (a division of Universal Studio Group), Imagine Entertainment, and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door, brings back the unique blend of horror and comedy that made the original film a fan favorite. Brian Grazer, who produced the 1989 film starring Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher, returns as an executive producer alongside MacFarlane (Ted), Erica Huggins, and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door. Dana Olsen, the original film’s writer, will serve as a co-executive producer on the series.
A Fresh Take on a Classic
Set in present-day suburbia, The ‘Burbs follows a young couple who return to the husband’s childhood home, only to have their peaceful suburban life upended when mysterious new neighbors move in next door. What begins as a simple, quiet life soon turns into a web of old secrets and deadly threats, shattering the illusion of their serene cul-de-sac.
This modern adaptation will continue the comedic tone of the original while adding contemporary twists and new layers of mystery. Fans can look forward to a thrilling, laugh-out-loud blend of suburban life, dark comedy, and unexpected surprises.
A Powerhouse Creative Team
The The ‘Burbs series boasts a stellar creative team. Keke Palmer, a standout talent in both comedy and drama, will lead the cast while also serving as an executive producer. Palmer’s star power and undeniable charisma promise to bring fresh energy to the beloved franchise.
Joining Palmer is Celeste Hughey, a writer known for her work on Palm Royale and Dead to Me, who will pen the script and serve as executive producer. Hughey’s knack for balancing humor with heartfelt moments is expected to shine through in this adaptation.
