At New York Comic-Con 2024, Hudson Yang—best known for his role as Eddie Huang in Fresh Off the Boat—sat down to discuss his latest gig promoting McDonald’s new Chicken Big Mac. Yang shared his enthusiasm for the project, reuniting with his Fresh Off the Boat co-star Randall Park, and even his dream McDonald’s meal.
A Surprise Role with a Delicious Twist
Hudson Yang was on a break from acting to focus on his studies at Harvard, but when McDonald’s approached him with a campaign offer, he couldn’t say no. The twist? He didn’t know what he’d be promoting until the day of the shoot.
“When McDonald’s reached out to me, I was like, come on, like, you gotta do it. And I was so surprised. I didn’t know what I was really promoting until they showed me the day of—they were like, ‘It’s the Chicken Big Mac.’ And I was hyped! I didn’t know what to expect, but holy cow, like, unbiased opinion, it is great. Better than the Big Mac for sure.”

Yang’s surprise and excitement about the Chicken Big Mac made the campaign all the more genuine. With his wholehearted endorsement, he’s helping introduce this new spin on the classic Big Mac to fans, and he’s not shy about admitting that it might even be better than the original.
Reuniting with Randall Park
One of the biggest highlights of the Chicken Big Mac campaign for Yang was reuniting with his Fresh Off the Boat co-star Randall Park. The two shared a natural chemistry on screen, which translated seamlessly to the commercial set.
“I love Randall so much. He is like my idol, my icon. I try to base my personality or my ideals off him because you’ll never meet a nicer, more generous person in the world. But yeah, being with him again, things kind of clicked back into place, no hesitation. We were just laughing, goofing off on set again, just making jokes.”
Yang and Park’s easy rapport brings a unique, playful energy to the commercials, giving fans a taste of their beloved on-screen dynamic. The actor hopes to collaborate with Park again in the future, but for now, fans can enjoy watching them together in these lighthearted ads.
The Iconic Mickey D Experience and Favorite Happy Meal Toys
For Yang, the appeal of McDonald’s goes beyond just the Chicken Big Mac. Reminiscing about his childhood, he shared a memorable Happy Meal toy he’d once coveted.
“I remember there was one time they were doing a Yu-Gi-Oh. I used to be a huge fan of Yu-Gi-Oh, and they had Yu-Gi-Oh McDonald’s toys, and there were, like, special edition cards.”

The nostalgia around Happy Meal toys like the Yu-Gi-Oh series underscores the powerful connection the Golden Arches has with generations of fans. Yang’s memories reflect how Happy Meal toys have become treasured collectibles, evoking a sense of childhood wonder and excitement.
Hudson Yang’s Dream McDonald’s Meal
As an all-day breakfast enthusiast, Yang has a strong opinion about what his ideal McDonald’s meal would look like, especially if he could curate it for fans.
“I have been fighting—not really fighting, but like complaining because I want all-day breakfast to come back. But I think if I had to like, curate a McDonald’s meal, it would be like a sausage and egg McMuffin and a bacon McMuffin, just at any time of the day.”
Yang’s dream McDonald’s meal taps into the collective yearning for all-day breakfast, a feature that McDonald’s discontinued in 2020. For Yang, the simplicity of a McMuffin anytime embodies the perfect menu choice.
A Dynamic Journey Beyond the Screen
In addition to promoting McDonald’s, Yang has been busy in other ways, including hosting a cooking show called Crash Course Cuisine, where he showcased his love for food alongside friends like Randall Park and Forrest Wheeler from Fresh Off the Boat. His passion for both entertainment and food continues to shape his career in exciting ways.
Hudson Yang’s appearance at New York Comic-Con to promote the Chicken Big Mac offered fans a fun glimpse into his latest project and his admiration for Randall Park. From his humorous anecdotes about Happy Meal toys to his vision for an all-day breakfast revival, Yang’s insights reflect the lighthearted nature he brings to every project.
The Chicken Big Mac is available at participating McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. for a limited time while supplies last.
