Digimon is Going Big in 2025 Starting With The Digimon Trading Card Game

Digimon will feature a range of releases and content during the new year. Check out the amazing reveals for 2025.

Digimon will go bigger in 2025 as upcoming releases and changes create an impact around the world. This includes the Digimon Card Game that will now unify all language versions into synchronised releases, starting with booster BT21. Big changes have also been revealed, including the new booster debuting a missing part of the franchise that aired as an anime. With even bigger news expected, here are the reasons why 2025 could be the year for Digimon.

The Digimon Card Game announced a global unification of all releases during March 2024. Digimon Liberator soon debuted as the new Digimon project that gave the TCG a huge boost, featuring an all-new web comic and novel series. The series has debuted the mascot Digimon, Pteromon, along with a large amount of new Digimon such as Shoemon. Various cards have now been revealed and released, with many mysteries and reveals still to come.

Could 2025 be the Year of Digimon? We Say Yes

Big changes will occur in 2025 as April will mark the unification between the Japanese, English, and Chinese version of the Digimon Card Game. A recent broadcast from the official Bandai Card Games channel debuted a stream revealing the plans for 2025, including the first booster that will release globally. BT21 was revealed to be releasing in April 2025 and was even revealed to include a massive debut for the Digimon Card Game.

Upcoming Digimon Card Game Releases

BT21 was revealed to be called â€˜Global Convergence’ and will feature the mascots of all Digimon anime series. This includes the debut of Appmon for the first time as Gatchmon and his unique line will be added to the card game. This is a historical moment as Digimon Universe: Appmon was a distinctive series that featured monsters that deviated from Digimon. Cards teased include Gatchmon and even Globemon, with their unique keyword effect <Link> to be revealed.

Two new Starter decks will also feature based on the Digimon Adventure anime series. This includes the red deck, Protector of Light, and a blue deck, Hero of Hope. These will feature Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon, respectively and will also include duo-colour cards featuring the Digidestined. The stream also revealed the upcoming boosters for the year and the Digimon Card Game championship, giving fans more epic events to look forward to.

Fans await Anime news

Fans will have a special music video to look forward to after the new year, which will be released in March 2025 at the upcoming Digimon Con. This is part of the 25th-anniversary celebration, which will see adult Tai and Matt with the potential to be reunited with their Digimon. However, Digimon Partners revealed an earlier date on social media that could be the anime news fans have been waiting for. This has yet to be confirmed but will mark the start of Digimon reveals for 2025.

There is so much happening for Digimon starting in 2025 and it’s an exciting time to be Digimon fans. The Digimon Card Game has been excelling with its new releases thanks to Digimon Liberator. However, an anime is still needed to raise the hype higher, especially to obtain new fans in the west. Toei has yet to implement their Global distribution plan so it would be interesting if an English dub could quickly follow to expand the fandom.

For now, the introduction of Appmon is a massive reveal and it finally brings all anime series together for the first time. It will be exciting to see what new cards fans will get in the upcoming booster, especially since the stream mentioned Owen and Zenith during the BT21 reveals. It will be interesting to see if fans get Elizamon’s full line and Vemmon in the booster too, especially since Zenith hasn’t been seen since Chapter 0 of the web comic.

Digimon Card Game will be releasing the Special Set Booster on December 13, 2024. This will be followed by EX8, Chains of Liberation, on January 10, 2025, and the rest of BT19 and BT20 in Special Booster 2.5 releasing in February 2025.

The unified releases of BT21, Global Convergence, will be released on April 18, 2025, for Japanese, English, and Chinese versions of the booster. The booster will also be globally released alongside the new Starter decks, Protector of Light and Hero of Hope, in the same month.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
