Triple H Answers Yes To Pushing The Envelope After RAW’s Debut On Netflix

Raw on Netflix

Triple H discusses what to expect from RAW on Netflix now that it has had its premier episode. He answers if we can expect edgier content and his philosophy on it.

RAW has been on USA Network in the US since day one. It had a little break from USA Network for a few years, but it made its way back home. It’s hard to imagine RAW being anywhere else, but it is now.

As of Monday, RAW is now on Netflix, with the move comes a lot of questions as to how the show will change. The biggest piece of speculation is if RAW will no longer be PG content  and if it will have cursing.

In a recent interview with SI Media With Jimmy Traina, Triple H talked about what the WWE Universe can expect from RAW on Netflix. His answer wasn’t a no to cursing, but also not exactly a yes either.

“This will be family-friendly programming just like it’s always been, right? PG programming. To me, the whole ‘I need somebody to swear in a movie to make the movie good,’ I just don’t, I get it. There’s certain genres of things that need that or that are good with that, but I’ve seen just as many comedians that are clean that are, you know, making crazy money as I have ones that are laced with profanity. I think all of that is given way more importance.” H/T to Wrestling Inc. for transcription

Triple H’s goal is to have a program a parent can watch with their children and not question if their child should be watching what they are seeing on their screen. However, he also admitted to being open pushing the envelope at times

It is yet to be seen what pushing the envelope is to Triple H and the WWE. However, the openness is a good sign and maybe with time the PG product will move closer to a PG-13 product, finger’s crossed.

Traina brought up the lead-up to last year’s WrestleMania as an example he saw as WWE willing to push the envelope. He specifically named the interactions between The Rock and Cody Rhodes. Rhodes being busted open, Rock cursing and Rhodes’ comments on Rock’s little Rocky Maivia were all examples of WWE willing to go a little further. Triple H agreed with these examples and saw them as great examples as to why he thinks F-bombs all over RAW will take away from the show.

“The moment where Rock busted Cody [Rhodes] open and you were shocked by that was very impactful and told a very different story than what we normally tell. If you do that all the time, it means nothing.”

Seeing blood week-after-week in almost every match makes it far less impactful. However, cursing is different. I think wrestlers should talk how they normally talk. If they cuss then let them cuss.

Enough speculation about if WWE will allow cursing because we have an answer. On the first episode of RAW on Netflix Rock came out and as he approached the commentary team, Pat McAfee and Michael Cole, Rock was bleeped and based on what McAfee said after it sounded like he said “let’s f***ing go!” With that it appears that WWE isn’t quite ready to let too many curse words through.

We are in a new era of wrestling and of WWE. The future is bright for WWE right now and it will be very exciting to see what WWE does in the future with a foot in the door with Netflix. SmackDown could move to Netflix as well as premium live events. That stuff is so much more exciting than blood and bad words on RAW.

What did you think of the debut episode of RAW on Netflix? Did it live up to your expectations? What did you wish they had done differently? What do you think they did right? Were you disappointed that it didn’t feature cursing? Do you think it would have taken away from the show? Let us know if you think WWE will eventually move all their programming to Netflix.
