Michael K Williams, Star of The Wire & Lovecraft Country, Passes Away at 54

Hollywood actor Michael K Williams has passed away at the age of 54.

Known for a slew of roles including Lovecraft Country, The Wire, and the 2014 Robocop among many others, the Emmy-nominated actor was found dead in his apartment on Monday according to The Hollywood Reporter

Williams’ longtime rep Marianna Shafran issued the following statement:

“It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss”.

The New York Police Department found Williams in his apartment at 2 PM.  He is survived by his mother.  Williams received an Emmy nomination for his role as Montrose Freeman in HBO’s Lovecraft Country and was also seen in When They See Us as Bobby McCray.  He was also well-known for his portrayals of Omar Little on The Wire and Chalky White on Boardwalk Empire, 2 of HBO’s most successful programs.  HBO has also issued a statement following the actors’ passing:

“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Michael Kenneth Williams, a member of the HBO family for more than 20 years. While the world is aware of his immense talents as an artist, we knew Michael as a dear friend who was beloved by all who had the privilege to work with him. We send our deepest condolences to his family for this immeasurable loss”.

Film-wise, Michael K Williams appeared in supporting roles for the 2014 Robocop, 2013’s Snitch, 2015’s Assassin’s Creed, and more.  We at The Illuminerdi are deeply saddened by his passing and wish his loved ones the best in their grieving.  May he Rest In Peace.
