Tiny Toons Looniversity: The Adorable Tiny Toons are Coming Back!

First, the Animaniacs returned, and now it will be Tiny Toons getting their turns. HBO Max officially announced today that the cartoon heroes of the popular 1990s animated series, Tiny Toon Adventures, are getting a revival with the new animated series, Tiny Toons Looniversity. RELATED: NEW TINY TOONS LOONIVERSITY SERIES COMING TO HBO MAX The show is currently in the works and will be streaming on the newly announced relaunched version of HBO Max, which has been redubbed as Max and will relaunch later next month. HBO Max also revealed some new artwork for the Tiny Toons Looniversity show on Twitter, which you can see below:

THE TINY TOONS ARE BACK IN TINY TOONS LOONIVERSITY

The original series ran from 1990 to 1992 for three seasons and 98 episodes. It was created by Tom Ruegger (Animaniacs). The series followed a group of young aspiring cartoon characters attending as students at Acme Looniversity to become the next generation of the Looney Tunes. Many of the characters idolized and worshipped the previous generations of Looney Tunes characters, who also appeared throughout the show, usually as their mentors or teachers at the school. The show largely revolved around Buster Bunny (Charlie Adler), Babs Bunny (Tress MacNeille), Plucky Duck (Nathan Ruegger), and Hamton J. Pig (Don Messick). Essentially they were the successors to the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, etc. At one point, Plucky Duck even got his own spinoff, The Plucky Duck Show, which ran for only one season and 13 episodes in 1992. Ruegger later created Animaniacs, which debuted on Fox Kids in 1993. Animaniacs has since been revived with a new series on Hulu that is currently in the midst of its third season. Previously, Tiny Toons Looniversity was announced for a straight-to-series order for HBO Max and Cartoon Network back in October 2020. However, there hasn’t been much word on what’s been happening with the show for over two years. RELATED: MULTIVERSUS TECHNICAL ALPHA [STEAM] 1ST IMPRESSION OF WB’S EPIC CROSSOVER FIGHTING GAME Based on the newly released key artwork, it looks like many of the original characters are back, including Babs, Buster, Plucky, Hampton, Dizzy Devil, Sweetie Bird (but she looks a bit more devious this time), Calamity Coyote, Little Beeper, Furrball, Fifi LaFume, Gogo Dodo, and Li’l Sneezer. It even looks like Montana Max and Elmyra Duff are also back, but they appear to be somewhat obscured in the background, but you can just make them out. Overall, their designs don’t look too wildly different. However, they do look a bit updated, and their colors and artwork look updated as well. It will be interesting to see how the final product turns out. Tiny Toons Looniversity does not yet have an official premiere date. It’s only known that it will stream later on Max. According to Amblin Entertainment’s website, Erin Gibson (Key and Peele, Throwing Shade) is serving as the showrunner for the new series. Sam Register, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank are executive producing the show. It’s also supposed to be getting a two-season direct-to-series order for HBO Max (soon to be just Max next month). Warner Bros. Animation is also co-producing the show with Amblin Entertainment. Hopefully, most of the voice-over actors who are still active and available will be reprising their roles from the original series.
