Cassian Andor Will Introduce A New Exciting Female Lead To Star Wars: EXCLUSIVE

Cassian Andor and K2SO are currently set to return in an upcoming Disney+ series, along with seemingly bringing a new female lead to the Star Wars universe.
Cassian Andor 1

Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor was one of the most memorable parts of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The sly spy was a morally grey character for the usually far more black-and-white Star Wars universe. So the news of the upcoming Cassian Andor Disney+ show is exciting for both fans, and now we know a little more about the show.

The Illuminerdi has learned more about the upcoming Cassian Andor series for Disney+, and how it’s set to feature what appears to be a major female character named Luna.

WHO IS CASSIAN ANDOR?

Cassian Andor and K-2SO were introduced during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The pair were among the members of the Rebel Alliance who fought against the Empire and tried to bring freedom to the galaxy. Cassian was especially established as a spy for the Alliance, one willing to do dirty deeds if it helped save the galaxy. Working alongside Jyn Erso, Cassian was forced to reassess the kind of man he’d become and willingly joined her on a potential suicide mission to steal the Death Star plans.

Their mission was ultimately successful, and the Rebels were able to get the plans for the Death Star (and more importantly, learn about the weakness at the core of the space station). However, this came at the cost of the rebels who were present at that base, including Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO. K-2SO is the first member of the team to fall during the final mission, holding back waves of Stormtroopers and other droids. Cassian and Jyn both die last, holding each other as the blast from the nearby Death Star wipes out the planet they’ve been trapped on.

The Cassian series will (somewhat obviously) be a prequel, taking place during the period where Cassian and K-2SO became major agents of the Rebellion. The show could even delve into how the pair first met and became allies, similar to how Solo: A Star Wars Story revealed how Chewbacca and Han Solo became best friends. But what else will be going on in the series?

WHAT WE NOW KNOW ABOUT THE CASSIAN ANDOR SERIES

Cassian Andor 3

Our sources have indicated to us that there is currently a third lead character being cast in the series, named Luna. The character is younger than Cassian, but only by a few years. She will also serve as a series regular. She’s described as a charismatic and dynamic lead character. It was also specifically mentioned that whatever actress takes on the role will “have options” as the show progresses. Which essentially means that the character could potentially have a future greater than just the Cassian series. Or may even survive the events of the show and could potentially reappear in another series.

The series still has time to find its other leads, as it’s not set to begin filming in the United Kingdom until June 2020. But Diego Luna, who plays Cassian, seems just as excited to return to the Star Wars universe as fans are to see him, according to a recent interview he did with Variety. But with the Obi-Wan Disney+ show delayed, the pressure might be on Cassian to deliver a new memorable Star Wars experience. Do you think the Cassian series is the future of Star Wars on Disney+?
