Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have a lot on their plate right now, but they’re committed to keeping the public informed.

The Coronavirus, or COVID-19, has been on the rise worldwide, which has only heightened the panic surrounding it. It is said that there are over 1,000 cases of Coronavirus in the U.S., and the World Health Organization has officially declared the Coronavirus a pandemic.

Understandably, there is quite a bit of concern, with people stockpiling toilet paper and water. Italy has closed down the entire country, and even the U.S. has put a 30-day travel ban on Europe to help prevent the spread of the virus. However, it seems that COVID-19 is spreading regardless, and the latest person to have contracted the virus is none other than national treasure Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson.

What Happened To Tom Hanks?

Tom Hanks and his wife were in Australia in order to film a movie about the life of Elvis Presley, and Hanks was playing Presley’s manager. The Elvis biopic is currently being produced by Warner Brothers, who released the following statement:

We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia, has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus). We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.

Of course, we now know that individual to be Tom Hanks. Hanks himself updated his social media with a post explaining his situation. It seems that Hanks and his wife went to get tested because they were feeling slightly feverish. Of course, the pair are following protocols as per the medical officials, and are still in Australia.

The couple’s son Chet Hanks also turned to social media to update everyone on his parents. He posted a video stating:

I just got off the phone with them. They both are fine, they’re not even that sick. They’re not worried about it […] but they’re going through the necessary health precautions, obviously. I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about. I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well wishes but I think it’s all going to be alright. I appreciate it and everybody stay safe out there.

In times like this, it would be prudent to remain calm and not get swept up in the hysteria, but also to practice an abundance of caution. With news that the NBA is suspended for the rest of the season, and now that the Hanks couple has come down with Coronavirus, people are likely to feel like the reality of this pandemic is hitting much too close to home.

Hopefully COVID-19 will pass soon, and here’s to wishing Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson a speedy recovery.
