WWE 2K21 Release Unfortunately Canceled

In a recent WWE investor call, it was revealed that WWE 2K21, which would have been the 2020 release for the WWE 2K franchise, will not be moving forward.
WWE 2K21 Cancelled

During an investor call for WWE earlier this week, it was revealed that there are no plans to release WWE 2K21.

WWE 2K20 was plagued by glitches and visually, was a step-backwards from the previous release. Previous versions of the game were produced by Yuke, but for 2K20, 2K went with Visual Concepts instead.

Justin Leeper, a MoCap actor and a former writer on the game franchise revealed in a YouTube video that he’s heard from “reliable sources” that another developer is working on a “different kind of WWE game”. It’s hard to imagine what a different kind of WWE game might look like. What other genre than a sim with a story mode could you have? What would an open world WWE RPG look like? Maybe a mobile based idle game?

Justin Leeper Discusses WWE 2K21

Fear not, we don’t have to wait too long to find out. According to the official WWE 2K Twitter account, an announcement is coming on Monday at 7AM PT.

WWE 2K21 Official Announcement

2K will be making an announcement about the future of the WWE franchise

The wording in the tweet is a bit interesting. It states that they will both be sharing details on the future of the WWE 2K franchise AND some exciting news. This leads me to believe that it’s 2 different announcements, though I suppose it could also just be a poor choice of phrasing.
