CD Projekt Red broke a lot of hearts this week when they announced that the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed yet again with the new date set for November 19, 2020.
Originally scheduled for release this past April, the game had been shifted from that date to September so that Cyberpunk could continue to be play tested and polished. However, it looks like CD Projekt Red still needs time to work out the kinks within the game. One’s knee jerk reaction may be to cancel their pre-orders or to not place anymore trust with CD Projekt Red, but you have to respect their decision to deliver a quality game.

There are some theories that this may be a strategic move to set the release date closer to the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles to capitalize on any packaging deals or the shopping rush that would be set to occur for Black Friday weekend.
Cyberpunk 2077 For All
Greed doesn’t seem to be the motivation here. To lessen the blow of the delay of the game CD Projekt Red officially announced that anyone who purchases the game for the PS4 and Xbox One would automatically be upgraded via a next gen patch should they decide to purchase a PS5 and Xbox Series X. With these next gen console releases comes the need for the gaming industry to find solutions to complaints most of their customer base have when it comes to consumerism.
In the age of games that cost upwards of $50, microtransactions, buggy gameplay due to rushed publishing, and exclusivity in gaming titles, gamers are asking for a break on their wallets and gatekeeping. CD Projekt Red is making the most consumer friendly move yet.
This may be somewhat of a power PR move due to the multiple delays the game has suffered, however if you’re a longtime gamer then a delay of a major AAA title shouldn’t be surprising. The next gen upgrade patch also applies to those who purchase a physical copy of the game. The delay doesn’t damper our excitement, Keanu is well worth the wait.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for pre-order. There are no release dates for the PS5 and Xbox Series X as of the time of this article, but all signs point to a Fall 2020 release. Are you excited to play? Let us know in the comments below!
