The Cyberpunk franchise is gearing up for its video game debut with this year’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077.
The game itself promises to be one of the most well-realized and in-depth cyberpunk worlds we’ve seen in gaming. The buzz has left fans itching to find out more about the game. Luckily, this week CD Projekt Red held their “Night City Wire” presentation on the game, where they also announced that a Cyberpunk 2077 anime will be coming to Netflix in 2022!
Currently titled, Cyberpunk: Edgerunner, the series is said to take the perspective of a brand new character in the dangerous streets of Night City. The character decides to become one of the titular Edgerunners, mercenary outlaws in the Cyberpunk world, who use their cybernetic enhancements to get their jobs done.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Next Stage
Game Director of Cyberpunk 2077, Adam Badowski, said in a statement:
“We are so excited to finally reveal that we are working on an anime in the Cyberpunk world. […] Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is our love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animated form.”
In addition to the announcement, the talents behind the scenes bringing the show to life were made known to us. The studio bringing the animation to life is none other than the same minds behind Gurren Lagaan and Kill la Kill’s vibrant and colorful artstyle, Studio Trigger! Hiroyuki Imaishi is also slated to direct the series as well. A piece of key art has been revealed for the series, as shown below.

As for the mind bringing the distinct sounds and music of Night City to life, legendary Silent Hill alum Akira Yamaoka is slated to compose. CD Projekt Red are also producing the series, which will allow for a seamless transition between one piece to the next.
The series is currently slated for a 2022 release window, with no further details as to when we can expect more information.
