Olivia Cooke is being circled for a lead role in the upcoming series The Magic Order, currently in pre-production at Netflix.
The Magic Order is based off the comic series of the same name by Mark Millar and Oliver Coipel. The series will center on a group of five families made of up wizards, and sorcerers. While they spend most of the day posing as stage magicians and escape artists that entrain the world with illusions, they spend the nights fighting against a mysterious and powerful dark magic that could otherwise threaten the world. But their unity is threatened when parts of the group turn on one another in search of more power, setting off the magical equivalent of a gang-war between the families.
Although there have been no formal casting announcements at this point in development, the series has attracted some impressive talent behind the scenes. Among the Executive Producers for the upcoming show (alongside comic co-creator Mark Millar) are Lindsey Bear (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser), Michael Clear (Swamp Thing), and James Wan (Aquaman). Beer is also confirmed to be one of the writers for the show. However, that may have begun to shift with an eye towards production, with the newest casting information suggesting that the show has begun to seek performers.
WHO COULD OLIVIA COOKE BE PLAYING IN THE MAGIC ORDER?
The Illuminerdi can confirm that as of now Olivia Cooke is in talks to take on the role of Cordelia Moonstone. One of the main characters of the series, Cordelia is the illegitimate daughter of Leonard Moonstone, one of the magicians who work within the Magic Order (and is also set to be a major player in the show).
A misanthropic drunk with a punk-like aesthetic and a perchance for dangerous stunts, Cordelia is described as being “more dangerous than her father realizes.” This could be setting the stage for the series to draw up her more rebellious qualities, which are present in the original six-issue series.

This fits well with Olivia Cooke’s past roles, which have included the retelling of the classic horror film Psycho, Bates Motel, in the popular television series for AMC. As well as the darkly-comic thriller Thoroughbreds and the critically-acclaimed period drama Vanity Fair. Although Cooke hasn’t been confirmed to have signed onto the role, it is telling that Olivia Cooke is seemingly among the first actors to be officially approached and in talks with the streaming service for a part in the series. The Magic Order is currently set to wrap production in March of 2021 — however, the on-going ramifications of the Covid-19 pandemic might end up pushing production back to some extent.
