While outlets like CBR are reporting that Tom Sturridge is reportedly being circled as a favorite for the role of Morpheus, Dream of the Endless in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of The Sandman, the IllummiNerdi can confirm that Liam Hemsworth and Darce Montgomery are being considered for an almost equally important role in the first season — the Corinthian.

COULD LIAM HEMSWORTH OR DACRE MONTGOMERY BE PLAYING THE CORINTHIAN?
In the original Vertigo comic ongoing The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman and a host of talented artists, the Corinthian first appeared in the second major story arc of the show, “The Doll’s House.” A nightmare once conjured up by Morpheus to reflect the darkness in humanity and scare them when needed, it wasn’t long before Morpheus was captured and magically contained for decades. In that time, the Corinthian ended up using his freedom from his creator to become a monstrous figure in the material world. He turned into something of an unkillable serial killer, stealing the eyes from his victims and consuming them with his own mouth-like eye sockets.
In the original series, Dream was sickened with the Corinthian once he learned what had become of his creation, and he ended up destroying it for its actions. He would later remake the being, this time as a more loyal figure — although it’s unknown if that element will be a major part of the character, especially early on. The character breakdown for this version of the Corinthian positions him more as a direct antagonist and threat to Dream’s return, with the character being described as “determined to thwart his maker at every turn.”

Recent casting breakdowns for the upcoming series have suggested that the Corinthian will play a more major role from the beginning of the series onward. The IluumiNerdi can confirm that both Hemsworth and Montgomery have been looked at by Netflix as possible actors to take on the role, although it appears that Hemsworth has been considered more than Montgomery. Hemsworth spoke to franchise-creator Neil Gaiman back in March, but he hasn’t been confirmed to have signed onto the project. It would be an exciting role for Hemsworth, especially given the increased antagonism the casting breakdowns suggest for the character.
Liam Hemsworth, a veteran of the Hunger Games franchise and the younger brother of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Chris Hemsworth, is a strong pick for the role, especially when it comes to the amount of charm needed to make this monstrous figure at first appear humane and friendly. He’s frequently shown off some impressive charm (particularly in a memorably hilarious role in the Rebel Wilson comedy Isn’t It Romantic). But Montgomery is still very much “in the mix” for the role, going by the casting sheet. Having previously played the unstable pretty boy Billy in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Montgomery would also likely be a good pick for the role, especially given his experience playing a twisted but engaging villain.
