Hellsing is a reimagined story of the Dracula & Van Helsing myth as the renowned vampire, Alucard, protects England and the world from vampires, ghouls, and various supernatural threats as a special agent bound to The Helsing Organisation.
A DEEPER LOOK AT HELLSING
With Sir Integra Helsing, descendent of Abraham Van Hellsing, leading the organisation, undead threats are slain along with former police officer Seras Victoria, whom Alucard turned into a vampire. The series was written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano and was originally published by Shōnen Gahōsha.
Kolstad commented about the new adaptation to Deadline:
“Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed with adapting it, and when Mike Callaghan and his team managed to secure the rights to then partner us up with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Amazon, I mean -damn, dude- this is a dream.”
Kolstad is not the only one participating in this new production as the feature will also include Brain Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger (Automatik), Mike Callaghan and Reuben Liber (Ranger 7 Films), and Jason Lust (Soluble Fish Productions).
Kavanaugh-Jones released a statement about working with Kolstad on this new feature –
“Derek is an exceptional writer and we are so excited to partner with him on what he does very best – building rich mythology filled with iconic characters,”
There has yet to be any release regarding information on cast or details for the live-action adaptation. However, rumours have already begun that Keanu Reeves may be the actor to portray Alucard. This has yet to be confirmed and has no solid proof, but the role would suit Reeves perfectly along with the action sequences likely to be included in this series.
