New Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank featurette to get fans excited and to get their mutts into theaters on July 15, 2022.
This summer has had a lot of really good animated features. Pixar’s Lightyear and Illumination’s Minions: Rise of Gru were both great films in their own right, and now Paramount Pictures is adding their entry for 2022’s animated features with Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank. This action-comedy adventure features an all-star cast that includes Mel Brooks, George Takei, Aasif Mandvi, Gabriel Iglesias, Djimon Hounsou, and Michelle Yeoh who also started in Minions: Rise of Gru. The topper of this film though is that it is loosely based on Mel Brook’s Blazing Saddles which adds a whole new dimension of humor to this furry frenzy.

The featurette gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the film with the two main stars, Michael Cera and Samuel L. Jackson. The two seemed to have spent a lot of their time working on the film laughing and were both very excited about the story. Personally, Samuel L. Jackson delivering lines that are playfully pushing the boundaries of a PG rating with the same dedicated vigor he delivers the iconic curse word he is known for wielding better than anyone else instantly sold me. I’m also excited to see Cera in another action role, even if it isn’t live-action.

Aside from the main stars and all-star cast, it is going to be interesting to see not only a younger skewed interpretation of Blazing Saddles, but also a modern-day one. Blazing Saddles is still hilarious to me personally, but I understand why much of the film would not work today. Mel Brooks being part of the cast gives me all the assurance I need. He is still genuinely hilarious and even in his crudest of jokes in the past, no hint of malice has ever been felt. I would bet that this film adapts to the age demographic and the times, while still carrying the spirit of Blazing Saddles.
