THE POKEMON TOGETHER CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES FANS TO ENJOY THE FRANCHISE TOGETHER
On Feb. 27, 1996, Pokémon Red and Green were released for the Nintendo GameBoy in Japan. Players were introduced to the concept of battling, catching, training, and trading the lovable pocket monsters by connecting with friends.

This marked the beginning of what became a global phenomenon and one of the most beloved multimedia franchises, with a community of fans known as Trainers. Since then, Trainers all around the world have celebrated their love for Pokémon on Feb. 27, known as Pokémon Day.
As seen in the video, Pokémon has expanded from the mainline games to multiple derivative works. The trading card game, the anime, and Pokémon GO are notable examples that are prominently featured, with Trainers from different ages and backgrounds sharing their joy and excitement. The franchise has shaped many people’s lives and brought them together, beautifully illustrated in one short but sweet video.
The Pokémon Company was founded on Apr. 23, 1998, as a joint venture by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. It was created to manage the Pokémon Center stores in Japan. However, since that time, the company has expanded to cover other aspects of the franchise, such as the video games, the anime series, and the trading card game for Japan and other parts of Asia. Its subsidiaries Pokémon Korea, Inc. and The Pokémon Company International hold the same duties in South Korea and areas outside Asia respectively. Currently, Tsunekazu Ishihara is the President and CEO of the main branch.
The Pokémon Company International formed in 2009 from a merger between Pokémon USA (founded in 2001) and Pokémon UK (founded in 2003). It is responsible for managing and licensing the brand outside its home country, covering the anime, home entertainment, the trading card game, and the official Pokémon website for the American and European markets. Kenji Okubo is the current President and CEO of The Pokémon Company International.
This year, The Pokémon Company International is holding a special campaign inviting Trainers to celebrate together on Pokémon Day. Beginning on February 15, Trainers worldwide are encouraged to post photos and videos sharing their love and memories of their experiences with the franchise. Anyone who adds #PokémonTogether on their post will have a chance for it to be part of a massive mosaic in the style of the iconic Poké Ball that will be revealed on Pokémon Day.

The senior director of TPCi brand marketing, Andy Hartpence, had this to say:
“Since its beginning, Pokémon has had the unique ability of physically and virtually bringing people together. In 2023, we look forward to recognizing this aspect of the brand and inviting its remarkable community of fans to experience the many ways they can connect and ‘Pokémon Together’ across the franchise. We welcome Trainers to Play-, Discover-, Watch-, Collect-, Trade-, and beginning this Pokémon Day, Celebrate Pokémon Together.”
