2022 was a year filled with great films. One of the biggest surprise hits for cinema in that year was the Predator prequel, Prey. When it comes to prequel films, they either succeed or fail but with Prey, it brought the Predator franchise back to its roots with a story that holds on to survival. Since its release, audiences have been wondering when and if there will be a Prey 2.
Well…it appears that a sequel for Prey is in the works!
Prey 2 In Development
According to World of Reel, a listing in Production Weekly shows that a sequel for Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey is in development at the popular streaming service site, Hulu. Not many other details about the sequel and the storyline were released at this time, but it will be interesting to see where the story will take place next.

Not only were fans praising the film, but it was also a huge hit for critics as it hit an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. You check out our review for the film here.
THE SUCCESS OF PREY
The Predator is an all-time great horrifying creature that has terrified audiences since the late 80’s. With a character with that much history, it’s important to keep the same level of excitement and chills that have been a franchise trademark since the very beginning.
According to director Dan Trachtenberg, it was important to go back to the basics while also making Prey feel fresh and new.
“I think the thing that made everyone say yes to it so quickly was that it felt like, on one hand, it was harkening back to the original. It’s back-to-basics. It plucks all the same strings that the original movie plucked while also feeling totally fresh and new.”

In Prey, we learn about the creature’s hunt, 300 years prior. We meet Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young woman who is a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She is raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters as they travel among the Great Plains. When danger threatens her camp, she is determined to protect her people. This was also the first time that a movie has ever been done completely in Comanche, the native language of the Comanche Nation. This was of great importance to producer Jhane Myers since she ensured that the authenticity shined through.
MORE PREDATORS IN THE BOOKS
Last year, Trachtenberg spoke about the possibility of telling more stories about the Predator. Audiences already know that the Predator has been around for a very long time. There is not just one species of its kind, but multiple species.
“There are ideas. People have thoughts. And sometimes people say words after they have those thoughts. So, you know, who knows?”
-Dan Trachtenberg-
There are endless possibilities of where the story can continue. The film can even be turned into a whole franchise of its own if they decide to continue it. There are many stories to be told and written. Currently, there is no word on whether Trachtenberg will return to direct and if Amber Midthunder will reprise her role as Naru.
