The Toxic Avenger reboot takes center stage as Legendary Pictures has released a hilarious Eyewitness Report of the first sighting of Peter Dinklage as the Toxic Avenger in the new teaser trailer. The video is age-restricted on YouTube due to sensitive content so be advised that it will get bloody gruesome.
NEWS REPORTS ABOUT A “FEARLESS FREAK”
In the teaser, multiple news stations are reporting on the strange hero who has been seen on multiple occasions saving multiple people. Eyewitnesses have described the hero as a “messed up hot dog” and there are a few quick shots of blurred photograph evidence of the character.
The footage quickly changes to a Breaking News Report, where a group of extremists called “Nasty Lads” have taken hostages at a lunch diner downtown when a mysterious being shows up. Check out what happens next in the video below:
WHAT IS THE TOXIC AVENGER?
A new generation of viewers will be introduced to this black comedy cult classic starring Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a man who is diagnosed with a terminal disease while working at the Garb-X health company. This is a reboot of the R-rated 1984 low-budget action-comedy film with the same name. That film generated three sequels and expanded into numerous variations including a 1990 animated children’s TV series spin-off called Toxic Crusaders. It even became a musical and a Marvel comic book series.
The synopsis of the film reads:
“A horrible toxic accident transforms downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze into a new evolution of hero: THE TOXIC AVENGER! Now wielding a glowing mop with superhuman strength, he must race against time to save his son and stop a ruthless and power hungry tyrant bent on harnessing toxic superpowers to strengthen his polluted empire.”

When it came to casting the role of Gooze, director Macon Blair spoke about the importance of having a person who draws people in. “If they’re not sympathizing with him by then, by the time he turns into a monster, then they’re not going to get on board after that point.” He continues by saying that they wanted an actor who would generate sympathy in the audience but also had both a comedic nature and full of rage.
WHO IS SET TO STAR IN THE FILM
Alongside Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay will be playing Wintson’s stepson, Wade. Taylour Paige will play investigative reporter J.J. Doherty who also is a vigilante detective. Kevin Bacon is Bob Garbinger, a villainous corporate overlord who is often compared to Lex Luthor. Elijah Wood plays alongside Bacon as the disfigured Bob.
Sarah Niles is Mayor Togar. In the original Toxic Avenger, she was a pivotal character who was leading one of the largest crime rings in the city. Julia Davis will be playing a character named Kissy Sturnevan and Johnny Coyne plays Thad Barkabus.
For many years, the film was stuck in limbo but it finally debuted at Fantastic Fest on September 21. As of right now, there has not been yet an official release date. It’s currently sitting at a high 94% on the critics’ Tomatometer. It is safe to say that this film is going to be a fun film to watch.
