Netflix’s hit series The Sandman became one of the streaming service’s most-watched series in its first week on the platform. According to Nielsen’s streaming top 10, the series dethroned the fourth season of Stranger Things, racking up to 1.4 billion minutes watched. We got to meet Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) the ruler of the Dream Realm. The series is based on the first two volumes of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel of the same name.
As it captivated so many viewers, it wasn’t surprising to see that the series was renewed for a second season. New realms and characters are set to be introduced in the upcoming season such as Hades, Persephone, and many more.

THE SANDMAN INTRODUCES GREEK MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS
In July, X user @SandmanNews posted a photo of what looks to be Orpheus, one of the heroes from Greek mythology. This character is played by Ruairi O’Connor. The season began filming in June at Durdle Door before it paused due to the WGA writer’s strike.
According to What’s On Netflix, the new episodes will also feature several iconic names including Hades, Persephone, and Eurydice.
NEW CHARACTERS CONFIRMED
According to Gaiman, the second season was only shooting for two weeks until the strikes closed it down. From those two weeks, set photos were starting to surface online. The filming was happening in Dorset, England at a cemetery where a new character played by Indya Moore. Moore’s character isn’t known but many fans are speculating that they may be playing a character named Wanda.
The Punisher star Amber Rose Revah has also joined the cast for season 2. This was confirmed via her Spotlight CV where it indicated that she is currently filming The Sandman. Popular theories suggest that she may either play Titania or Eurydice.
The characters who are set to be included in season 2 are Delirium, Destiny, Destruction, Thor, Loki, Odin, Orpheus, Hades, Persephone, Eurydice, Auberon, Titania, and Wanda.
THE SONG OF ORPHEUS
Hades, Persephone, and Eurydice play a large role in The Sandman Special #1, “The Song of Orpheus” (1991). Season 2 will cover the storyline of the retelling of the original myth. It will also consist of Volume 4, Season of Mists and Volume 7, Brief Lives.
The Song of Orpheus is about the wedding of Dream and Calliope’s son Orpheus to his betrothed nymph Eurydice who is the granddaughter of Ares. Everyone in the Endless family is present, including Delirium and Destruction who are yet to appear in the series. Once Eurydice is killed, Orpheus is determined to bring her back from the dead as he seeks help from his family. He decides to travel to the Underworld to bargain for her life.

When he arrives, he begs Hades and Persephone to return his wife. The way he convinces them is by his beautiful and powerful music. Even though he enchants them, they tell him that he must walk alone back to his world, trusting that she will be following him. During his journey, if he ever decides to look back, she will never return to him.
The Sandman season 2 has no official release date. As we wait for the new season, Dead Boy Detectives is expected to release on Netflix sometime in 2024. This series is part of the Sandman Universe so fans can expect connections from this series The Sandman.
