At long last, the Mad Max franchise continues with the upcoming prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. George Miller returns to direct the new prequel, depicting the origin story of Furiosa, the character first introduced in 2015’s hit film, Mad Max: Fury Road. Now, the first trailer, images, and poster have arrived for the film, at last revealing Anya Taylor-Joy as the new Furiosa.

Taylor-Joy replaces Charlize Theron from Fury Road. Since this is the character’s origin story, the film called for a younger actress to take over the role in depicting the earlier years of the character. Also, Chris Hemsworth stars opposite Taylor-Joy as the warlord Dementus, who was previously referenced in the Mad Max video game. You can check out the brand-new, action-packed trailer below:
FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA INTRODUCES THE CHARACTER’S ODYSSEY
Director George Miller and stars Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy were in attendance at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil to unveil the first trailer and poster for the film during a panel event. Based on the early look at the film, it looks like it will not disappoint and will live up to the standard set by Mad Max: Fury Road. You can also check out the poster reveal below:
The new film returns to the Wasteland of the popular post-apocalyptic, dystopian saga. Set 45 years after the collapse, Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) is desperately trying to return home in her epic odyssey. The new film is described as a “Standalone action adventure” revealing the origins of the characters from Fury Road.
The film will depict the young Furiosa, who is taken from her home the Green Place of Many Mothers after the world’s collapse. She falls into the hands of the Biker Horde and the Warlord Dementus (Hemsworth), and what looks to be like a younger version of Immortan Joe from Fury Road. After sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, led by The Immortan Joe. As the two Tyrants are pitted against one another in a war for dominance, Furiosa seeks to survive many trials as she searches for a way home.
The film also stars Alyla Browne and Tom Burke alongside Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth. Miller wrote the script alongside his Fury Road co-writer Nico Lathouris. Miller is also producing the film with his longtime partner Doug Mitchell. Simon Duggan is the film’s director of photography, with Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) once again back to compose the music.
Mad Max: Fury Road was an impressive triumph, and that’s considering that the earlier Mad Max movies were already post-apocalyptic, seminal, and influential classics. Furiosa looks like it’s creating the pulse-pounding and intense aesthetic from Fury Road, and it looks like it’s going to be another insane thrill ride. It also appears that the younger Furiosa will have her work cut out for her in order to survive the wasteland and become the Imperator audiences meet in Fury Road.
Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing the film in theaters nationwide on May 24, 2024. It will be released internationally a little bit earlier on May 22, 2024. The film is actually coming out nine years after the previous installment.
