10 Chambers is a Stockholm-based game studio founded in 2015 by Ulf Andersson. Andersson, known for founding Overkill Software and creating the PAYDAY franchise, has led 10 Chambers from a team of 10 to over 100 employees. Today, 10 Chambers has unveiled the final chapter of its spine-chilling tactical multiplayer horror game, GTFO. The announcement was made at The Game Awards, where the studio revealed the free Rundown 8.0: Duality expansion, marking a thrilling conclusion to the game’s intense narrative.

The Climactic Conclusion of GTFO

GTFO has been a journey of relentless horror and survival since its launch in 2019. The Rundown 8.0: Duality update is the twelfth major content release for the game, bringing the total number of missions (expeditions) to over 80. This final chapter promises to deliver a culmination of the fear, tension, and cooperative gameplay that fans have come to love.

In GTFO, players take on the roles of prisoners trapped in the nightmarish underground complex known as Garganta. Guided by a mysterious entity called “The Warden,” survival hinges on the team’s ability to communicate, coordinate, and manage resources effectively. As players delve deeper, they encounter increasingly terrifying creatures, each requiring unique tactical approaches.

The Bittersweet End of a Creative Journey

GTFO challenges players with its emphasis on teamwork. The difference between life and a gruesome death often depends on how well a team can work together. Players can customize their load-outs and roles to suit the expedition’s needs, adapting their strategies to the evolving horrors of the game.

Simon Viklund, co-founder of 10 Chambers and the narrative and audio director, expressed a bittersweet sentiment about moving on from the world of GTFO. The team has invested considerable effort in the narrative and level design for this final chapter, aiming to provide a satisfying conclusion to the game’s story arc.

While Rundown 8.0: Duality marks the end of new content for GTFO, 10 Chambers will continue to support the game with bug fixes. All previously released Rundown content updates will remain freely accessible, ensuring that both new players and the existing fanbase can enjoy the full GTFO experience.

While it is always bittersweet to see a game come to an end, fans should be elated as the end of this game has opened up 10 Chambers to work on their second title, Den of Wolves. (Currently in development). And there is a real possibility the game can be getting a console release in the future.
