Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Aniplex, has announced the highly-anticipated anime adaptation of the Korean manhwa sensation, Solo Leveling. Set to premiere on January 6, 2024, the series will be available exclusively on Crunchyroll, reaching audiences across 200 territories worldwide.
The World of Solo Leveling
Solo Leveling takes place over a decade after a pathway called a “gate” connects our world to another dimension. This event awakens individuals with superhuman powers known as “hunters,” who use their abilities to conquer dungeons within the gates. The story follows Sung Jinwoo, considered the weakest hunter of all mankind, as he encounters a double dungeon and embarks on a journey that allows him to level up uniquely.

Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting Solo Leveling‘s global appeal and Crunchyroll’s commitment to delivering diverse, high-quality content. The series, adapted from the best-selling Korean web novel by Chugong, later became a popular webtoon and manhwa with illustrations by DUBU.
Production and Staff
The anime adaptation is brought to life by A-1 Pictures, known for Sword Art Online, with motion graphics by Production I.G, famous for Attack on Titan and PSYCHO-PASS. The series is directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, with music by Hiroyuki Sawano and K-pop band TOMORROW X TOGETHER, character design by Tomoko Sudo, and monster design by Hirotaka Tokuda.

Synopsis
Over a decade has passed since a pathway called a “gate” which connects this world and another dimension suddenly appeared, and people with superhuman powers called “hunters” have been awakened. Hunters use their superhuman powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates to make a living, and Sung Jinwoo, a hunter of the lowest rank, is considered the Weakest Hunter of All Mankind. One day, he encounters a double dungeon, a high-level dungeon hidden inside a low-level one.
In front of a severely wounded Jinwoo, a mysterious quest window pops up. On the verge of death, Jinwoo decides to take on the quest, which makes him the only person who can level up.
