New episodes of the ten-episode final season will air on HBO and also available to stream on Max, with new episodes debuting on Sundays at the same time, with the series finale set to air on April 7. This brings an end to the Seinfeld creator’s popular, award-winning sitcom.
CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM COMING TO AN END WITH SEASON 12
The hit series debuted way back in 2000. The show featured David starring as a fictionalized version of himself as the semi-retired writer and producer of the hit show Seinfeld and the various high jinks he gets to in his everyday life. The show has since garnered 11 seasons and 110 episodes. Per the HBO logline for Season 12, the final season features “Larry David as an over-the-top version of himself, the iconic Emmy and Golden Globe-winning comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm offers a tongue-in-cheek depiction of the writer/producer/comedian’s fictionalized life.”
Speaking on the announcement via a press release, series star, and creator Larry David stated, “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character.” He continued, “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”
HBO & Max Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys also commented in the press release, “It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny, and iconic series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre.” He added, “Working alongside Larry David and Jeff Schaffer as well as all of the comedic masterminds that comprise our producers, cast, and crew has been a joy that I will always treasure.”
The series generally followed how trivial details in David’s day-to-day life snowball and precipitate a series of usually catastrophic events. The series is best known for shooting without a script, and its cast members are given scene outlines, and they improvise their lines as they go.
Also returning for Season 12 are longtime cast members Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, Ted Danson, and Richard Lewis. Season 12 also stars Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Vince Vaughn, and Tracey Ullman. Since the show debuted, it’s received 51 Primetime Emmy Award nominations with two wins, along with five Golden Globe nominations and one win. The show has also received multiple awards across multiple guilds, including SAG, DGA, and WGA.
