Longtime WWE veteran and former WWE Champion Sheamus spoke about the last two goals he has for his WWE career. The Celtic Warrior has done just about everything there is to do in WWE.  He has even won the Money in the Bank and the Royal Rumble.

It would be easy to think Sheamus has no goals left for him to achieve in WWE.  However, on a recent episode of Virgin Media Sport Stories, Sheamus talked about two goals he hopes to achieve before his time in WWE is up, specifically winning the Intercontinental Championship and headlining WrestleMania. Sheamus stated on the topic:

“The IC title, that’s it. And main event WrestleMania too, I want to main event WrestleMania as well, that’s another one. So, IC title and main event WrestleMania, they’re two things I want to do.”

Won Almost Every Championship In WWE

Sheamus has been the United States champion on three separate occasions, but never the Intercontinental champion.  He has been with WWE since 2006 and it is hard to believe that in that time he has never held the Intercontinental Championship.

Sheamus is currently out with an injury.  His last big match was Edge’s WWE retirement match in August 2023.  He should be showing up back on WWE TV hopefully soon. Sheamus was teaming with Ridge Holland and Butch before he left and the group was known as The Brawling Brutes.  Since he has been gone the team has had some issues and it appears to be no more as of right now.

Winning the Intercontinental Championship should be a pretty easy goal to achieve once he returns to WWE.  All he has to do is … never mind. Maybe it is impossible.  The current Intercontinental champion is GUNTHER and his title reign is approaching 600 days so that is perhaps a task too great for any mortal man.

Sheamus has had his sights on the Intercontinental Championship for a while. One was when he faced GUNTHER at the Clash at the Castle premium live event in September 2022. He challenged for the title against Gunther once again at last year’s WrestleMania 39.  On Night 2 of the event, he and Drew McIntyre faced off with Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER in a Triple Threat match for the title. However, GUNTHER once again walked away victorious.

Both matches were well received by fans.  Sheamus thinks the WrestleMania Triple-Threat match should have headlined the event. Sheamus explained why it should have gone on last during the Virgin Media interview. The Superstar elaborated:

“It should have gone on last; it stole the show at WrestleMania, nothing came close match-wise to the match me, GUNTHER, and Drew [McIntyre] had, and I knew it was always going to be the case. But that title, I mean, I was so close at ‘Mania, and then it just got taken away from me.”

Sheamus May Not Have Much Time Left in WWE

Sheamus may not have much longer to achieve his last two goals in WWE.  His WWE contract is rumored to be expiring sometime during the first half of this year.  This year’s WrestleMania 40 will be held on April 6-7, so he has a little time to build up a main event feud if he doesn’t re-sign with WWE.

In the last decade, Sheamus has done work in stables and tag teams apart from his singles.  He was of course part of The Bar along with Cesaro. His latest team, The Brawling Brutes, had been a thorn in the side of many Superstars on the SmackDown brand. Also, the stable appears to be no more at this point.

Do you think Sheamus can achieve these two goals before he retires from WWE?  Which one would you rather see him achieve?  Do you think he will re-sign with WWE?  If he doesn’t, do you think he will retire or sign with a new promotion?  Would you rather see him follow Dolph Ziggler to NJPW or Cesaro to AEW?  When he returns, let us know on social media if you would like to see him continue with The Brawling Brutes or go solo.
