A new Sonic Generations remaster is in the works, now with new bonus content featuring the Ultimate Lifeform as a playable character. The Sonic X Shadow Generations game is due out later this fall.

SHADOW JOINS SONIC IN SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS
From the State of Play presentation, we saw a trailer for the new Sonic Generations remaster that was rudely interrupted by Shadow the Hedgehog halfway through. According to the description of the trailer, a new campaign involving a playable Shadow The Hedgehog will be added, but what past games these levels will be remixed from has yet to be revealed. The new sequences tease a look at Doom’s Eye, an extension of the villain, Black Doom, from Shadow the Hedgehog 2005.
Sonic Forces was the last game to include Shadow as a playable character, and that was in a DLC pack from over five years ago. This announcement marks the biggest inclusion of this fan-favorite character that we’ve seen in a long time. With this game set to release in August and the third Sonic film releasing in December, this is going to be a huge year for Shadow the Hedgehog fans.
Sonic Generations was first released in 2012 and was a loving celebration of Sonic’s history. This new remaster might be a further celebration of one of the franchise’s most iconic characters that debuted in Sonic Adventure 2. It might even recognize the more maligned and messy titles like Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) as a part of the legacy of this series.
Sonic X Shadow Generations will be released on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic later this fall 2024.
