Luke Cage was canceled years ago after two seasons, but the showrunner recently released a list of unused episode titles for what would have been season 3.
Carl Lucas, AKA Luke Cage, AKA Power Man is one of Marvel’s most iconic street-level heroes. Carl Lucas gained bulletproof skin after he was experimented on in prison. With his new abilities, he became Luke Cage, the hero of Harlem. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mike Colter played the titular hero for 2 seasons of Luke Cage and appeared in the crossover miniseries The Defenders. Luke Cage also plays a role in Jessica Jones Season 1.
In response to Disney’s creation of the Disney+ streaming service, Netflix canceled all of the Marvel TV shows that they distributed. The cast and creative teams of Luke Cage, Daredevil, and the other shows were shocked by this decision. Cheo Hodari Coker, the creator, showrunner, and one of the writers of Luke Cage had developed a strong vision for Season 3 before it was canceled.
Season 3 Titles Honor Hip-Hop & Reference Plot Developments
The second season ended with a massive change to the status quo. After crushing Cottonmouth and Mariah Dillard’s criminal empire and defeating his other enemies, Luke Cage made a shocking decision. Realizing that the criminal element will always be a part of his city, no matter how hard he fights, Luke Cage decides to control it instead of trying to end it. Cage steps into a new role as the King of Harlem. Marvel fans never got to see him operate as the godfather of crime because of the series’ cancellation.

Cheo Hodari Coker named every episode after music from beloved hip-hop artists. Season 1 featured songs by Gang Starr as the titles, and season 2 used songs from Pete Rock and CL Smooth to the same effect. Cheo Hodari Coker replied to a fan inquiring about his plans for Luke Cage, King of Harlem by posting a list of 13 songs by the iconic group Public Enemy. The songs reference how he would have been turned on by law enforcement, the superhero community, and possibly the general public as a result of his career change.
Could The Season 3 Story Finally Happen?
The Power Man himself has not been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the end of Season 2. However, the hit shows in The Defenders Saga were recently introduced to the MCU timeline on Disney+. This means that the show is canon and that Luke Cage did serve time as Harlem’s Kingpin. He could still be working in that capacity to this very day.

Did the events of episodes like “Welcome To The Terrordome” and “Louder Than A Bomb” happen offscreen? Did Cage make a positive change by trying to control crime, or did he just change the nature of the issue? Maybe we’ll see him return in Daredevil: Born Again as a competitor to Kingpin/Wilson Fisk. Fisk is going to make a bid for mayor, and Cage is currently serving as Mayor in the comics. He regrets his time as an established criminal, perhaps he could run for mayor in an attempt to redeem himself.
Luke Cage’s corner of the MCU is growing in popularity, recognition, and potential. While there is no guarantee that Mike Colter or Cheo Hodari Coker will return to work with the character in the MCU, such a move would greatly benefit the franchise and please the fanbase.
